Tornado warning issued in the Southwest

At 7:07 p.m., Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the R.M of Coulee including Neidpath and McMahon

Meteorologists are currently tracking a severe thunderstorm that has the potential to produce a tornado in addition to damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. If threatening weather approaches, take cover immediately.

If you see a funnel cloud, debris swirling near the ground, or hear a roaring sound, take cover right away.

Get down at the Uptown Block Party

Four Swift Current businesses have joined forces to host the first-ever Uptown Block Party this afternoon, located in the parking lot at George Street East and South Service Road East. 

Hosted by Urban Cellars, Original Joe’s, Shopper’s Drug Mart, and Dairy King, the party will serve as a fundraiser for SaskAbilities’ Walk, Wheel, Run event. 

Shake the Lake raises funds and spirits at Lac Pelletier 

The shores of Lac Pelletier Regional Park were alive with music over the weekend for the park’s largest annual fundraising event. 

Attendees gathered at the campground to support various community initiatives while enjoying a night of entertainment at this year’s Shake the Lake.

Severe thunderstorm Watch issued for parts of the Southwest

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Swift Current, Herbert, Cabri, Kyle, and Lucky Lake.

Current conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The thunderstorms are developing along a trough of low pressure moving through the region.

The threat of severe weather will lessen later this evening. 

Swift Current and Lac Pelletier RMs added to active fire bans

This morning, The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport issued two fire bans in the Southwest due to dry, hot conditions.

Effective immediately, a ban is now in effect for the RM of Swift Current and the RM of Lac Pelletier.

CSA-approved self-contained portable gas heating devices and fire pits, and barbeques will be permitted for cooking and heating purposes during the duration of the ban.

The ban will stay in place until conditions improve.

Silver Wing Access Van soares to new heights with Innovation Credit Union

One local initiative is significantly closer to reaching its goal after receiving funding from the Innovation Credit Union’s Legacy Community & Development Grant Fund. 

The donation to the Silver Wings Access Van Inc. (SWAVI) brings the outstanding total needed for a van for tenants of the Meadows to under 40,000 dollars, explained Tracy Schlamp, co-chair of Silver Wings Access Van Inc.
