Fun festivities planned for Pride week

It's all about celebrating yourself and being who you want to be as the city has proclaimed this week to be Swift Current Pride Week. 

Events are scheduled throughout the week and Dawn Caswell, a member of Southwest Saskatchewan Pride provides details on the queer prom held on Tuesday. 

``Each year we host a prom for essentially, those people that identify as some area of the LGBTQ community to go with the partner they wanted to go with, to wear the clothes they wanted to go with. Just to be their authentic selves.

Pride flag raised in recognition of week`s importance in community

The rainy weather yesterday did not stop those attending Market Square for the annual Southwest Saskatchewan Pride flag raising. 

This week of July 3rd through to July 9th has been proclaimed by the city as Swift Current Pride Week and Dawn Caswell, member of Southwest Saskatchewan Pride reflects on what it means to hold this event as part of the annual celebrations each year. 

Frontier Days went to the dogs

There was jumping, diving, and playing at Frontier Days this year and that was just from the dogs. 

One of this year's events highlights was the Extreme Dog show performances each day. 

CEO of Fusion Talent Group, Andrew Pogson provides details on the entertaining show. 

"So Extreme Dogs is pretty much the premier touring dog show coast to coast in both Canada and the USA profiling trainers almost like the Olympics of dog sports. So it's everything from dog agility to dog high jump and of course dock diving into a massive forty-foot pool."

Pancakes and a branding at the annual kick-off for Frontier Days

It was a flipping good time this morning at Market Square as part of the annual kick-off to Frontier Days with the W.W Smith Pancake Breakfast. 

The annual fundraiser saw proceeds going towards the Canadian Mental Health Association Swift Current Branch. 

Among the diners this morning was Swift Current Mayor Al Bridal who says the event was well attended. 

"Like all citizens were just looking forward to having something we can go to. The pancake breakfast this morning has a great crowd already."

Paws for a cause at Pawpalooza

The past weekend was all about four legged furry friends as the Swift Current SPCA held their Pawpalooza event on Saturday. 

Humans and animals alike enjoyed some fun as children got their faces painted and a number of dogs came down to get their nails done. 

From raffles to ax throwing it was a fun filled event that raised over $1200 for the SPCA. 

Over 300 impaired drivers ticketed during May traffic safety spotlight

Last month SGI focused its traffic safety spotlight on impaired driving with a particular focus on cannabis-impaired driving. 

A spokesperson with SGI, Tyler McMurchy provides some insight into the results from last month's spotlight. 

"We have the results back from the traffic safety spotlight. Now, these results are not substance-specific, they refer to both drug and alcohol impairment. The number of impaired drivers reported by police for the month of May for the province of Saskatchewan was 328 drivers that were caught after drinking or consuming drugs."

2nd annual Cruise and Walk for a Cure this weekend

The 2nd annual Cruise and Walk for a Cure to raise donations for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) of Saskatchewan and also raise awareness for type 1 diabetes will be taking place this Saturday, June 25th. 

The walk will begin at the Credit Union Iplex at 11:00 am and the cruise will leave from there at 1:00 pm 

The event is being coordinated by Jelena Funk and Vince Sebo.
