Support continues to pour in for Steinbach’s Tasha Wiese, as the local woman recovers from multiple amputations and a life-threatening illness. Among those rallying behind her are Keith and Talia Comer, former Christian musicians now living as missionaries in England, who remember Wiese as one of their most devoted fans.
Waffles, crafts, and culture at Mennonite Heritage Village Museum this April
There’s a lot happening this spring at the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) in Steinbach, and Jo-Ann Friesen, the museum’s Visitor Experience Administrator, is absolutely thrilled.
“My job is to make sure your visit is one you’ll remember,” Friesen said. “Whether it's the retail shop or the general store or even just making sure everything's safe and welcoming, it’s about how you experience the museum from every angle.”

Niverville jewelry shop broken into; thieves clean out store
RCMP are looking for tips after a jewelry store in Niverville was broken into this week.
It happened at 88 Carats Co. on Main Street. Niverville RCMP were notified on Tuesday at 9:30 am of the break and enter.
Officers were told that the store owner had just arrived and discovered the building had been broken into. Investigation revealed the suspects gained entry through breaking a second storey window sometime overnight.
An undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise, including jewelry, was stolen.
Council gives final approval to Steinbach’s 2025 financial plan

Steinbach City Council has officially approved the city’s 2025 financial plan, finalizing a $37.4 million general operating budget after giving initial approval in March. This does not include the water and wastewater revenues and expenses.

What is open and what is closed Easter Weekend?
This Friday is expected to be a much quieter day for retail in Steinbach.
Good Friday is a general holiday or statutory holiday. As a result, many stores are choosing to be closed that day. Some stores will also be closed on Easter Sunday.

9 SRSS students shine in Skills Manitoba, 2 bring home gold
Steinbach Regional Secondary School (SRSS) is gleaming with a metallic sheen after nine of its students brought home medals for their successes in Skills Manitoba.
"We're very excited and we're thankful for the commitment by the teachers and the success of the students," says Joe Thiessen, superintendent of the Hanover School Division (HSD).
As a part of the competition, the HSD says students participate in challenges that test their skills that are necessary in trades and technology careers.
Grass fire breaks out near Vita
A large grass fire broke out in the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn on Wednesday, April 16.
Fire Chief Harv Nickel says the fire started off the dike, just south of Vita.
“With the strong winds, it came north about three miles, and we were able to stop it on Road 5 North so it couldn't cross there, and it spread east-west approximately about two and a half miles at the widest extent.”
No injuries in Thursday morning multi-vehicle collision in Niverville
A multi-vehicle collision occurred east of Niverville shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Niverville Fire Chief Keith Bueckert says,
"We had a three-car collision at PR 311 and 6th Avenue. Everyone is fine. We had no patients transported by ambulance. Everyone was checked out and released."
The intersection was closed, and traffic was rerouted.
Bueckert says they were on scene for about an hour.
The area was opened to traffic around 8:45 am.
RCMP say the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
