It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and dear friend, Roger Louis Arendt, after a lengthy illness. Roger passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mildred Beatrice Wiley and Francis Roy Arendt, and his brothers, Gerry Arendt and Bud Arendt.
Provincial cutting horse competition taking place at the Golden Mile Arena
The Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association's provincial competition got underway on Friday at the Moose Jaw Exhibition Company's Golden Mile Arena.
The event showcases a horse and rider's ability to cut a calf out of the herd and keep the calf separated from the herd for a two-and-a-half minute time limit.
Competitors are then scored based on the horse's ability to keep the cow away from the herd and penalized if it needs help from the rider.
Child killed in collision in Ogema
A boy under the age of 10 was killed following a collision in Ogema on Thursday.
Coronach RCMP were called to the scene of a collision at the intersection of Bradley Street and Saskatchewan Avenue in Ogema at 5:30 p.m. yesterday. Also responding were local fire and EMS.
Police say a vehicle and a child on a bicycle collided and the child was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle remainder at the scene. Police are continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP reconstructionist.

This week’s Spike & Friends Pet Services INC. Adorable Adoptables featured two irresistible kittens from the Moose Jaw Humane Society: Macaroni and Greg from the Moose Jaw Humane Society (MJHS).
The playful pair, who’ve become fast friends despite coming from different litters. Macaroni, a tortoiseshell beauty, was the only kitten in her litter, while Greg, a sleek black kitten, arrived solo and quickly bonded with his new buddy.
Burrowing owl centre celebrating International Owl Awareness Day
International Owl Awareness Day is Monday, and the Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre is celebrating with four days of events.
There will be treats, magic shows, face painting, gift draws and more.
And, of course, visitors can come out and see the owls.
Long weekend rainfall in forecast, "low chance" of hitting popular destinations: ECCC
If you’re heading out for the Saskatchewan Day long weekend, the weather is going to cooperate—at least for the first half.
Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Crawford Luke says the forecast is calling for a “low chance” of showers or thunderstorms for today and tomorrow.
“I can’t promise you that there won’t be a thunderstorm in Moose Jaw,” said Luke.
Musicians invited to drop in and jam at Crescent Park next Tuesday
Local band musicians are tuning up for a laid-back, joyful gathering in Crescent Park next week as the Saskatchewan Band Association brings 'Band in the Park' back to Moose Jaw.
Running from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, the event isn’t a concert in the traditional sense — it's a drop-in jam session open to anyone with a band instrument and a love of music.
Soap box racing club gearing up for Aug. 17 event
The Moose Jaw and District Soap Box Racing Club is gearing up for its annual race on Alder Avenue on Aug. 17.
Between 15 and 19 racers are expected to take part, but there are still a few spots open. As of Wednesday, organizers still had three junior cars and two senior cars needing drivers. Junior drivers range in age from seven to 11, while seniors are seven to 15 depending on experience.
Moose Jaw Food Bank closed for Saskatchewan Day
The Moose Jaw and District Food Bank has announced that they will be closed on Monday, Aug. 4, in observance of Saskatchewan Day.
Those looking to utilize food bank services will be able to do so when regular operations resume on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Updated - Canola Council of Canada cuts agronomy team
The move is part of the Canola Council of Canada's new strategic framework, 'Canola Forward: A Strategic Framework for 2025-2030.'
The news came in a press release announcing the new framework. Chris Davison, president & CEO, says the framework is focused on priorities identified by the Canadian canola industry and is aligned to help the industry seize emerging opportunities while navigating changing industry and trade dynamics.
