Sports Round-Up: Wednesday, August 7

They go into Regina as the underdogs tonight. The Moose Jaw Miller Express are taking on the Red Sox in game one of the best-of-three Western Canadian Baseball League east division semi-final. Game two is set for tomorrow night at Ross Wells Park.

Rambler Park Fastball League playoffs are underway. The Moose Jaw Canadians beat the Moose Jaw Giants 11-1 - the game called early due to the league's mercy rule. Dustin Theil and Kent Barber hit back-to-back home runs to put it away for the Canadians. Blake Dixon was the winning pitcher.

Let the playoffs begin!

After playing 56 games in 74 days, the Moose Jaw Miller Express have finished 4th in the Western Canadian Baseball League's east division and will play the first place Regina Red Sox in round one of the playoffs. The best-of-three first round series will begin Wednesday night at Currie Field in Regina.

The Saskatoon Berries will play Medicine Hat in the other east division semi-final this week. The Berries finished off the regular season with a 4-3 win over Moose Jaw yesterday.

Sports Round-Up: Friday, August 2

The Saskatoon Berries came from behind and earned a 5-4 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express in Western Canadian Baseball League action. 

The Miller Express have three home games coming up this weekend to wrap up the regular season - tonight and tomorrow they host the Weyburn Beavers, and Sunday, they welcome the Swift Current 57s. 

The Toronto Blue Jays had a night off yesterday. Tonight they play the New York Yankees. 

RCMP investigate robbery in Chamberlain involving 4 suspects

After a robbery in Chamberlain last night, RCMP are asking the public to be aware of a gray or silver Dodge Durango and four suspects. 

RCMP say a man was putting gas in his vehicle at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday when he was approached by people unknown to him, who tried to sell him items including gold, and then threatened and stole money from him when he did not comply with their demands.

The Moose Jaw Miller Express fell 5-3 to the Saskatoon Berries last night. They get a rematch tonight when the Berries are in Moose Jaw. 

Major League Baseball, the Blue Jays lost 10-4 to the Baltimore Orioles. 

CFL, it’ll be the BC Lions bringing their 5-2 record Versus the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who have a 2-6 record so far this season. 

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are preparing to play host to the Edmonton Elks Saturday. Game time is 5 o'clock at Mosaic Stadium.

Police looking for Elias Hassan this Warrant Wednesday

If you know the location of Elias Hassan, the Moose Jaw Police Service would like you to contact them.

The 31-year-old man is wanted for charges including Possession of Stolen Property, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine, three counts of Failure to Appear, and two counts of Breach of Undertaking.

He's described as 6'1" and 170 lbs with curly black hair and brown eyes.

Heat warning issued for Moose Jaw

Another week, another heat warning for southern Saskatchewan.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the warning for southern areas of the province at 10:31 a.m. on Wednesday.

Today's daytime high is expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius in Moose Jaw, climbing further to 34 degrees with the Humidex. 

The hot weather is expected to stick around through the overnight period on Friday, before cooling down on the weekend. 

People are encouraged to drink lots of water and stick to cool areas indoors when possible, and in the shade when outside.
