Alberta now has 23 per cent of the 2025 crop in the ground
Alberta's Agriculture Financial Services Corporation put together the first crop report of the season.
Manglai a product coordinator with AFSC, says provincially there's now 23 per cent of the 2025 crop is now in the ground, thawhich t's well ahead of the 5-year average of 12 per cent, and the 10-year average of 14 per cent.
"Regionally - the South leads with 50 per cent of all crops seeded, followed by the Central Region at 22 per cent, the Peace Region at 10 per cent, the North West at 8 per cent, and the North East at 6 per cent."
Kindersley RCMP seek public’s help identifying armed robbery suspect
Kindersley RCMP are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery at a local business last month.
According to RCMP, officers responded to a report of a robbery at a business on 11 Avenue East at around 1:15 a.m. on April 18. The investigation has since determined that a male suspect entered the business at approximately 1:10 a.m., threatened an occupant with a firearm, and fled the scene on foot with a sum of cash.
Police say the occupant was not physically injured.

Grain’s supply and demand ratio finds balance

SASKATOON — The global grain outlook for 2025-26 is incredibly balanced, says an analyst.
The International Grains Council (IGC) is forecasting 2.373 billion tonnes of production and an identical 2.373 billion tonnes of demand.
“We’re looking at quite a finely balanced fundamental picture for grains,” Helen Plant, senior analyst for the United Kingdom’s Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, said in a recent webinar.
Light docket sees charges stayed, withdrawn at Kindersley Court, May 13
Kindersley provincial court saw a light docket Monday, with several cases resolved or moved forward.
Charges against Amanda Watson were brought back to Kindersley after previously being transferred to Saskatoon provincial court. Her last lawyer withdrew from the case, and she has since been assigned a new legal aid lawyer. The matter was adjourned to May 20 to allow her new counsel time to review the file. Watson faces charges of trafficking illegal substances and possession of property obtained by crime.
Saskatchewan launches new program to boost oil production and investment
The Government of Saskatchewan has introduced a new incentive program aimed at increasing oil production and generating investment by reactivating low-producing and inactive oil wells.
The Low Productivity and Reactivation Oil Well Program (LPRP), announced Monday, is designed to stimulate new oil production and revenue from existing horizontal wells by offering a modified royalty structure for eligible sites.
Energy and Resources Minister Colleen Young said the program reflects the province’s continued commitment to supporting its energy sector.
Unity RCMP respond to trespassing, assault, and break and enter
Unity RCMP responded to a range of incidents between May 6 and May 12, including a break and enter, reports of trespassing, suspicious activity, and ongoing investigations into assault and property damage.
Among the more serious incidents, a 21-year-old Unity man has been charged with break and enter with intent, resisting a peace officer, and failing to comply with an undertaking condition following a complaint of an unwanted individual at a residence.
Kindersley Town Council sets 2025 mill rate, passes annual budget
The Kindersley Town Council held their Regular Meeting on Monday, May 12.
Council approved the 2025 Operating and Capital Budget for the Town of Kindersley, outlining this year’s municipal spending priorities.
As part of the budget process, Council set the 2025 municipal property tax mill rate at 11.25 mills. They also gave all three readings and passed Bylaw 03-25, a bylaw to establish mill rate factors.
Council directed the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to enter into a Farmland Cash Lease Agreement with Coutts Agro.
