Airdrie care program shut down as school repurposes space for growing enrollment

Some parents in Airdrie are facing uncertainty after learning that the Little Steps Before and After School Care program at St. Veronica School will no longer offer its services at the school this fall. The decision was made due to rising student enrollment, which means that the previously utilized space by the program will be repurposed for additional classrooms.

City Council approves multi-unit dwelling amid discussion

At the recent Humboldt City Council meeting on June 23, a discretionary use application for a multi-unit dwelling on 14th Street was approved, but not without significant discussion. 

Prior to Council’s deliberations, a public hearing was held to address concerns raised by several 14th Street residents regarding the proposed development.

The WestJet Skyride, which has carried millions of riders above the Stampede midway since 1976, is now in its 50th year of operation. For the last eight years, Cochrane’s Darryn Monaghan and his family business, Quadra Industrial, have been behind the scenes keeping the ride safe and running smoothly.

Firefighters tackle two stubborn bush fires near MacGregor

Austin Fire Department crews spend several hours Thursday evening extinguishing two separate fires burning along a bushline near MacGregor.

The call came in just after 7 p.m., with a report of trees on fire near hydro lines in the area of Road 67W and Road 58N, located within the Municipality of North Norfolk.

Upon arrival, firefighters discover not one, but two fires burning a few hundred feet apart.

Both are along the same bushline and close to a nearby pasture.

Water Advisory lifted at Tim Horton Ranch pond

Alberta Health Services has lifted a water quality advisory for the swim pond at Tim Horton Children’s Ranch in Kananaskis, effective immediately.

The advisory was originally issued on June 26 after routine testing showed elevated levels of fecal bacteria.

AHS now confirms that water quality has returned to acceptable standards, and the health risk is considered low for recreational use.

A splash of fun before Innisfail Aquatic Centre closes for upgrades

Final swim party planned before Innisfail Pool closes for renovations.

The Innisfail Aquatic Centre is set to close this summer for major upgrades but not before one last pool party.

First opened in 1987, the facility has not undergone any significant mechanical or structural work since then.

In April, Innisfail town council approved a project to modernize the building, which will require the pool to remain closed until 2026.

While the idea of constructing a new facility was explored, rising costs led to the decision to move forward with upgrades instead.

Man on Saskatchewans Most Wanted list arrested in North Battleford

Battlefords RCMP have arrested a man wanted in connection with multiple violent offences, including unauthorized use of a firearm and a vehicle rollover. Frazer Stone was taken into custody on June 22 in North Battleford and is set to appear in provincial court on July 14.

RCMP say Stone was wanted on several serious charges, including four counts of assault with a weapon and four counts of discharging a firearm with intent. He also faces charges of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a release order.

Sask. RCMP release details on police presence near Piapot

Maple Creek RCMP received a report of a seriously injured individual at the side of the Trans Canada Highway near Piapot on Thursday morning.

The call was received around 9:40 a.m., and police, local fire, and EMS responded to the scene.

An adult male was declared deceased at the scene by EMS, and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service is investigating.

Road rage turns up mischief charges: WPS

Last Thursday afternoon, the Weyburn Police Service responded to a report of mischief to a motor vehicle. A woman driving a vehicle was stopped at a red light, when a man behind confronted her. 

Sergeant Riley Ross says the man ended up inflicting damage on the womans vehicle.  

“An individual wasn't happy with another individual's driving. Through that, that individual exited their vehicle and ended up kicking that other person's vehicle, which caused damage, so it was reported to us.”
