'Upside down and burning': Several injured but none dead after Pearson plane crash
More than a dozen people were injured but no one died when a Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis crashed and flipped over on the tarmac at Toronto's Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon.
Paramedics said out of 80 people aboard Delta Air Lines flight 4819, at least three people, including a child, were sent to hospital with critical but non-life-threatening injuries. Others were reported to have minor injuries.
Strathmore Air Cadets hosting popular food fundraiser with a focus on bacon
The 903 Strathmore Air Cadet Squadron has launched its biggest fundraiser of the year.
From now until March 26 residents can purchase different types of food from the cadets, with all proceeds going back towards the program.
"Part of the cadet program is them learning how to cook, handle food, and use basic culinary skills," said community liaison Brenda Stuart-Berry. "We've taken the cadets to the Blue Flame Kitchen in Calgary where they have a cooking lesson with a chef."
Internal report urged Canada to counter rhetoric about a 'crisis' at border
An internal government report warned a year ago that allowing "the trend of negative rhetoric" about the security of the Canada-U.S. border could lead to a thickening of the 49th parallel, adversely affecting trade and travel.
The report, written by a diplomat at Canada's embassy in Washington, said that failing to refute U.S. claims about a "crisis at the northern border" would lead to the erosion of Canada's image as a secure neighbour.
Students in the Strathmore area won't have classes for a week starting on Family Day
There will not be any classes for students at Golden Hills School Division and Rocky View Schools starting on Monday, Feb. 17 for Family Day.
According to the division, kids will have from Feb. 17 to 21 off.
Classes will start again on Feb. 24 for both divisions.
What's closed in Strathmore for the Family Day long weekend?
The Strathmore Municipal Library will be closed for most of the long weekend.
With Family Day on Monday (Feb. 17), the library announced that they'll be shut down starting on Saturday.
"We will re-open with regular hours on February 18," wrote the library.
The Strathmore Municipal Building will also be closed for the statutory holiday.
Other buildings, like the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre and the Strathmore Aquatic Centre will remain open.

Flu cases are continuing to rise across the country, public health data show, with Quebec, B.C. and the territories particularly hard hit as vulnerable patients seek help at hospitals.
The Public Health Agency of Canada's website says 24 per cent of cases tested positive for influenza during the week ending Feb. 8 — up from the already-high 21 per cent the week before.
Strathmore to be gripped by extreme cold temperatures Saturday night
Strathmore is about to be gripped by extreme cold reaching up to -45 with the wind chill on Saturday night.
"Wind chill values will moderate somewhat during the daytime hours. These extremely cold wind chills will continue into early next week before coming to an end," says a news release from Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The organization said residents should dress warm and in layers if they plan to go out as frostbite can develop within minutes.

Drumheller Family Fun Day: Drumheller is running a day of festivities at the BCF, Aquaplex & Memorial Arena from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will be a bouncy castle, free hot chocolate, Bannock Tacos, and a free public skate.
World’s Largest Dinosaur to play host to chainsaw carving showcase in Drumheller
The Town of Drumheller is gearing up for the roar of chainsaws to hit the valley for an upcoming weekend of fun.
The Power & Precision International Sculpture Event will run from May 16 to 19 with chainsaw carvers making their way to the area from the United States, Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The festivities will take place right next to the World's Largest Dinosaur, which stands at an impressive height of 86 feet tall.
According to staff with the town, the event will also feature food and live music for all ages.

A group of Canadian senators is sharing views on the country's flag, with some calling it a symbol of pride and togetherness, and others saying it represents Canada's growth.
The report released this week is the result of an "inquiry" on the meaning of the Canadian flag launched by Sen. Andrew Cardozo a year ago.
Canada is marking the 60th anniversary of the national flag, adopted in 1965 with its iconic red Maple Leaf under Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. Cardozo says it's important that Canadians are proud of the flag.
