Chestermere dishes out funding for senior programs
Senior programs in Chestermere have received additional funding for the upcoming year.
According to a news release from the city, a total of $28,000 has been allocated to two grant programs including $16,000 to the Chestermere Senior All Services for connections for South Asian seniors along with the Chestermere Whitecappers Association for senior fitness programs.
The Community Grant funding was approved by members of City Council during a meeting on Tuesday (Jan. 28).
Strathmore residents speak out on lack of family doctors
Strathmore is one of many places in Canada dealing with a doctor shortage.
According to Primary Care Networks (PCN), Strathmore only has one clinic accepting new patients, with many facilities not offering walk-in appointments.
Strathmore resident Taylor Cooke said she had to find a doctor in Chestermere to get consistent healthcare.
"It's very frustrating. I have a five-year-old daughter, so any kind of minor illness, we don't have anyone close to go to. We always have to drive or plug up emergency rooms over a cough," said Cooke.

What parents should know about new $15 a day childcare
The province has announced a flat fee for full-time licensed daycare facilities.
On Thursday (Jan. 30) the Alberta government announced that parents would only need to pay a flat monthly fee of $326.25, or $15 a day, starting on April 1.
The program is part of the $3.8 billion Canada-Alberta Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
"To support these changes and high-quality childcare, about 85 per cent of licensed daycare providers will receive a funding increase once the new fee structure is in place," wrote the provincial government.

Drumheller RCMP catch two people red-handed after break and enter at oil site
Two Calgary residents were arrested after being caught in the act of a break and enter at an oil lease site.
Drumheller RCMP responded to a call near Kneehill County on Tuesday (Jan. 28) for a report that two suspects were seen loading items into a green Mazda van.
"While officers were en route, the suspects and suspect vehicle left the location; however, officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle on Highway 575 near Range Road 212A," mentioned a police news release.

Man arrested in nearby community wanted in killing of Toronto rapper
A man wanted on Canada-wide warrants for first-degree murder in the 2018 killings of Toronto rapper Smoke Dawg and music manager Koba Prime was arrested in Airdrie during a routine traffic stop earlier this week, police say.
According to Toronto Police, the suspect, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, will be returned to Ontario. No timeline has been provided.
