Fore!: Weyburn Golf Club opens 18-hole course this weekend

With spring weather coming to Weyburn this weekend with highs in the mid-teens, the Weyburn Golf Club is excited to announce they are opening their 18-hole golf course for the 2025 golfing season. Volunteers worked earlier this week to remove the tarps and get the greens set for golf, and Kyrstle Fedoretz, general manager at the Weyburn Golf Club, is grateful for the great weather and even better helpers. 

Fradette, Arlene Beverly

Arlene Beverly Fradette, late of Weyburn, SK, (formerly of Radville, SK) passed away on April 16, 2025 at the age of 92 years.

Arlene was predeceased by her husband, Roger Fradette; son, Phillip “Phil” (Marla) Fradette; grandson, Lance Fradette; granddaughter, Ginelle Fradette; sister, Francis Popescu.

Finalists revealed for 2025 WEYBEX awards

The finalists for the 2025 biennial  WEYBEX Awards were announced this week. 

According to a release sent by the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, these businesses “personify the excellence and success of Weyburn’s business community”. 

A total of 12 finalists were selected in five categories, judged on factors including their submitted application and supporting documents, and their unique business achievements and engagements. 

For the Community Involvement Award, finalists are E. Bourassa & Sons, the Weyburn Red Wings, and the Young Fellows Club of Weyburn. 

RM of Weyburn releases by-election results

Thursday morning, the Rural Municipality of Weyburn released the results of the by-election held Wednesday. The by-election was for the vacant Division 1 councillor position. 

There were 69 votes cast in the by-election, with Christopher Cugnet winning the seat after receiving 35 votes. Doug Dembiczak, who had won the original election in November, received 34 votes.  

Weyburn mayor looks back at SUMA

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention wrapped up in Saskatoon this week, bringing together elected officials, administrators, and provincial leaders from across the province for four days of networking, resolutions, and policy discussions. 

Weyburn Mayor Jeff Richards, speaking Wednesday afternoon on his way back from the convention, said the event offered valuable opportunities to connect with both peers and provincial officials. 

Weekly police report: 102 calls, 23 charges, and ongoing Investigations

The Weyburn Policer Service report responding to 102 calls for service from April 7th to April 13th. A release sent by the WPS outlines some notable events from the week. 

Beginning with a reminder to residents regarding mental health issues. They report seeing an increase in calls for mental health support, prompting a reminder that if you or a loved one is struggling, the WPS is available to provide assistance and resources. Further support can be found by dialing 8-1-1. 

Over-the-counter isn’t one-size-fits-all: Weyburn pharmacist on treating seasonal allergies

Many people experience seasonal allergy symptoms due to different allergens present in the air in the spring. This according to Pharmacist at the Weyburn Pharmasave, Dee Nelson, who explains where these allergens come from. 

“In the springtime particularly, we have a lot of those triggers or allergens kind of floating around like certain molds from the snow melting, pollens from new plants budding and blooming. It's important to understand though that even though this tends to be the worst, allergy symptoms can present at any time of year."
