Trent Whippler is a Career Guidance Counsellor at Weyburn Comprehensive School. He says one of the most important considerations is passion.

"It does very much depend on your passion. Is it something that you really want to pursue? And you also have to keep in mind, you might get there, and take it for a year, you might not find it's what you want."

Drivers reminded to pay attention near 1st Ave construction: WPS

The Weyburn Police Service is reminding drivers and pedestrians to obey barricades and signage around the construction on First Avenue, where crews have been busy repaving between Government Road and Tenth Street.

The reminder comes as damage to newly poured concrete can delay projects and cost significant amounts of money should someone fail to see, or deliberately disturb, the fresh concrete.

According to Sergeant Shane St. John, traffic tickets are an attest to how many drivers are simply not paying attention.

VanDeSype comments on police reporting: PSAs, advisories, ongoing investigations

Through the weekly report from the Weyburn Police Service, the public is made aware about what tickets were handed out, if someone was charged in a vehicle collision, or what they need to be mindful of, such as school zones.

Brent VanDeSype, Weyburn's interim Chief of Police, said he accepted writing up the weekly reports as one of his duties as Deputy Chief.

"So the majority of it was me, but I encourage other officers to let their voice be heard on the radio, let the community hear somebody different than myself occasionally," he noted.

Following months of increasingly fraught contract talks, Canada's two biggest railways both locked out workers after failing to reach deals with the union by a Thursday deadline.

Salvation Army set to send kids back to school thanks to sponsorship

Thanks to the Weyburn Salvation Army's Back to School program, and sponsorship from Bree Patterson and her family, 42 local students will return to school with all the supplies they need.

Patterson, Associate Broker at ReMax Weyburn Realty, said the Salvation Army makes it easy, as for the past couple of years they've been ordering the supplies directly from School Start.

"Just for ease, and then kids are getting exactly what is on their school supply list and it just comes right to the Salvation Army," she said.
