Impact shutout again by Blaze

In the Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League, the Southwest CMX Impact kept it closer against the unbeaten Saskatoon Prairie Blaze this weekend.

Saskatoon shut the Impact out 4-0 in Gull Lake on Saturday.

It was a step forward for the Impact after lopsided losses in Saskatoon the previous weekend.

The Impact are now off until November 9th and don't play at home again until November 23rd.

Stringer OT hero for Wildcats over Weyburn

Dior Stringer scored the overtime winner as the Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats beat Weyburn 2-1 this afternoon.

Jade Thompson had Swift Current's lone goal in regulation. It was her second of the weekend. 

The Wildcats got some revenge after the Gold Wings beat them 4-3 in the shootout in Saskatchewan female U18 AAA hockey action on Saturday.

Swift Current hosts Notre Dame on Wednesday.

The two clubs are tied for third place in league standings.

A pair of wins at home this weekend against the Lethbridge Eagles makes it an 8-0 smoking hot start for the Cochrane Chaos.

Saturday, after a scoreless first period, Sarah Gaiser notched one for the Chaos in the second period and teammates added four more in the third in their 5-2 win.

Sunday, the Chaos held a 10-0 leading until 12 minutes into the third and went on an 11-1 win.

Peterson helps lead Saskatchewan to WHL Cup bronze

A bronze medal for five members of the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires at the WHL Cup.

Cade Mitchell of Gull Lake, Jake Hargrave of Lucky Lake, Carter Moen of Swift Current, Trae Peterson of Sturgis and Hunter Wilm of Central Butte all suited up for Team Saskatcheawn at the tournament for top 15-year-old hockey players in western Canada.

Peterson scored twice in Saskatchewan's 8-5 win over BC to win the bronze medal. Hargrave had two assists, and Wilm chipped in with a helper.

They finished with three wins and two losses over the week.

Noad's 3 assists key in Pistons scrappy team road win

Sam Noad had the primary assist on all three Steinbach Pistons goals as they defeated the Virden Oil Capitals 3-2 on Saturday night.

Over the last few weeks, the message, especially when it comes to road games with travel, was about starting on time. The team got the message and brought a tenacity right from the opening puck drop.

Lakovic, Schmidt crack NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Rankings

Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors had two players crack the NHL Central Scouting’s 2024-25 Players to Watch list for the 2025 NHL Draft.

Lynden Lakovic received an ‘A’ rating, while Connor Schmidt came in with a ‘W’ rating on the list, which a compilation of draft-eligible prospects from all the major development leagues throughout North America and Europe.

Lakovic was one of six players from the Western Hockey League to receive an ‘A’ rating as a potential first-round candidate.

Colts & Shadows football seasons both end

It was a tough ending to the season for two southwest high school football teams on Saturday.

On the road in Delisle, the Shaunavon Shadows came up just short in the provincial nine-man quarterfinals falling 29-25.

Keagen Richards, Grayson Arendt, Treysen Tetrault, and Kaleb Little scored touchdowns for Shaunavon in a losing cause.

Shaunavon has seven players graduating this year, including all four that scored a touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Swift Current Comp Colts also fell in a close contest in Moose Jaw to the Peacock Tornadoes 14-7.

Weyburn upends Wildcats in shootout

Hallie Parada scored with 8 seconds to play in regulation and added the shootout winner as the Weyburn Gold Wings beat the Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats 4-3 on Saturday.

The point from the shootout loss means Swift Current sits tied with Weyburn and Prince Albert for 4th place in the Saskatchewan female U18 AAA hockey league.

Jade Thompson, Kara Bergen and Reece Hawkins scored for the Wildcats as they outshot Weyburn 39-29.

Stevie Christiaens had Swift Current's only goal of the shootout as it went five shooters deep.

Alberta erases deficit to keep Saskatchewan out of WHL Cup final

Team Alberta scored eight straight times to come from down 4-0 and beat Saskatchewan at the WHL Cup on Saturday.

The win redeems their 5-2 loss to Saskatchewan in round robin, and puts Alberta in the gold medal game against Manitoba.

Saskatchewan will play BC in the bronze medal game on Sunday in Red Deer.

There are five members of the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires playing for Saskatchewan at the tournament for elite 15-year-olds in the four western Canadian provinces.
