After an incredible, and memorable few days, the U15 Central Energy captured silver at nationals, earning them the right to call themselves the second best softball team for their age in the country.

U15 Wildcats proud of top 4 finish at nationals
After an incredible weekend, the U15 Eastman Wildcats finished 4th at nationals this past weekend in Winkler and Morden.
"Oh man, it was a great last five days," coach Russ Kihn says proudly. "The girls played great. I'm really proud of them to get to where they got. Being fourth in the country is absolutely fantastic, it's something you don't get to experience very often, and I'm totally proud of the girls played. I'm so happy for them."

Forever 41 golf tournament at Mainprize raises awareness for men's mental health
Mainprize Regional Park was filled with support, community spirit, and remembrance as over 160 golfers took part in the Forever 41 Texas Scramble Golf Tournament in memory of Arie Schimmel.
Michelle Walsh, general manager of Mainprize, said the day was about both honouring Arie and shining a light on an important cause.
“Today, we are remembering Arie Schimmel in a Forever 41, Texas Scramble Golf Tournament,” Walsh explained. “It’s to celebrate him and bring awareness to mental health and suicide. It’s really a day for his family, his friends, and the community.”
Sylvan Lake Gulls battle to the end but fall in WCBL Final
The Sylvan Lake Gulls came up just short in their bid for a WCBL championship, falling 5–4 to the Regina Red Sox in Game 3 of the final Saturday night (August 16).
The game was tight from start to finish, with scoreless second, fourth, eighth and ninth innings keeping fans on edge.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two outs and 1,895 fans on their feet, the Gulls had Michael Quick on second base representing the tying run and Bryce Turner on first as the potential winning run.
A fly ball to center field ended the game, leaving both runners stranded.
Lacombe athlete powers Alberta to strong finish in Canada Games
Team Alberta’s men’s baseball ended its Canada Summer Games on a high note, defeating Manitoba 4–0 to secure fifth place.
Lacombe’s Zach MacDonald, who plays first base, drove in the winning run.
For him, representing Alberta was an unforgettable experience.
“This has been a surreal experience. To be here at the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, wearing Alberta across my chest, means the world to me,” MacDonald said.
U15 Energy punch ticket to 3 vs 4 game, guaranteed top 4 finish
It was a massive day for the U15 Central Energy, as the host club went three for three on the day, giving them a chance in the 3 vs 4 game on Sunday, meaning they've assured themselves as a top 4 team in the country.
Bronze for Saskatchewan baseball in Canada Summer Games
Two players with southwest Saskatchewan connections will be bringing home bronze medals from the Canada Summer Games.
Shaunavon's Mason Fauser and former Swift Current resident Aiden Kilshaw helped Saskatchewan to third place at the tournament in St. John's, Newfoundland.
"Means a ton," Fauser said. "Showing up with one of the smaller provinces in Canada and showing what we've got. It feels good."
Kilshaw played catcher and went 2 for 4 in the clinching 4-2 win over PEI today.

Red Sox erupt late to stun Gulls, force Game 3
The Regina Red Sox staged a stunning ninth-inning comeback to beat the Sylvan Lake Gulls 10-7 on Friday night, tying the Western Canadian Baseball League championship series at one game apiece.
Down 6-4 and to their final strike, Regina’s Justin Simard punched a two-run single to tie the game before Rafael Jackson followed with a go-ahead hit. Zayd Brannigan, who had five hits, capped the rally with a two-run homer as the Red Sox scored six runs with two outs in the ninth.
U15 Wildcats earn playoff birth after strong round robin
The U15 Eastman Wildcats went 5-1 in pool play, ranking them 3rd overall at the U15 Canadian National Championships, earning themselves a playoff game against Ontario.
The tournament, which is being held in Winkler and Morden, has been a big success for the Wildcats, but the team knows the hard work really starts now.
