Some underground utility work will be taking place in Foothills County soon.

Starting on Thursday, September 12, crews will be doing some underground utility installation adjacent to Pine Creek Road and Dunbow Road.

The work will consist of horizontal directional drilling of sub-surface utilities.

The High River Flyers with the HJHL have announced that former GM and head coach Colten Hayes has accepted a new role as being the assistant coach for the Olds Grizzlys of the AJHL.

Hayes spent three seasons with the Flyers dating back to the 2018-2019 season when he first was introduced to the coaching staff. He would then earn the GM title in the 2019-2020 season before coaching the Okotoks Oilers U18 AA and the Foothills Bisons U18 AA teams in the next two seasons. 

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and members of his inner circle are slated to return to a federal inquiry into foreign interference in coming weeks.

A newly published provisional witness list for the next phase of the inquiry's public work indicates senior government bureaucrats and members of national security agencies will also testify.

Trudeau and key government officials took part in the commission's initial hearings earlier this year on allegations of foreign interference in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.

A battle is heating up between Pierre Poilievre and Jagmeet Singh ahead of the return of the House of Commons next week, as the Conservatives challenge the NDP to help them bring down the government.

Singh said Wednesday he won't be taking advice from Poilievre, while sidestepping questions about whether the NDP would vote in favour of a non-confidence motion, as Poilievre challenged him to do.

A Foothills mother is reeling after a cougar killed one of her family's cats right outside her home and returned hours later.

Jessica Low had just prepared lunch for her youngest daughter at around noon when the five-year-old spotted something in the backyard.

"Within about a minute of sitting her down, she cried out to me that, '[Oreo] is dead.' I shot up off the couch to see what she was talking about and there was a cougar coming right up to the window with our dead cat in its mouth."

It's their annual 'Howdy Neighbour BBQ' with free beef on a bun offered during their 5-9 p.m. event.

The Observatory's and U of C's Dr. Phil Langill says they want to remove some of the mystery surrounding what they actually do there.

Okotoks will join over 650 communities participating in the Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 15.

This year's Okotoks run will be held in Sheep River Park, a new location from prior years.

Steve Preece is organizing this year's run, and though it's his first, he says he's had plenty of support.

"Sherry Heron, who was the previous director, had done a wonderful job. A dozen years, she did it, and it's tireless work. And the Terry Fox Foundation provides all the support I need to make the run effective."

What was originally the Highwood Theater back when it first opened in 1927 was built to host both live theatre and movies.

Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) announced Tuesday that 13 members are returning and nine new members have been named to the Canadian Agricultural Youth Council (CAYC).

The new council will serve terms of 18 months. The CAYC is a consultative body to Minister MacAulay as well as the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada that will provide advice, enable ongoing dialogue on food-related challenges and opportunities, share information and best practices, and advise on policies and programs affecting the agriculture and agri-food sectors.
