B.C. election recounts triggered in two ridings, delaying result for a week
British Columbia's redrawn political landscape won't be settled for about a week, with manual recounts triggered in two key ridings after a nail-biting provincial election that has yet to produce a clear winner.
Elections BC said Sunday the recounts will take place from Oct. 26 to 28 in Juan de Fuca-Malahat and Surrey City Centre, where NDP candidates lead B.C. Conservatives by fewer than 100 votes.
Airdrie leads the way for Rocky View Schools student numbers
On Thursday the Rocky View Schools Board of Trustees heard the official enrolment numbers for the school year breaking down each community.
As of September 30, RVS had a student enrolment of 29,243, which is an increase from the year before of 641 students, or 2.24 per cent.
In February 2024, RVS sent a projection of what they think their student enrolment would be at, they predicted 29,350.
Airdrie seeks input on retail needs through new survey
The City of Airdrie is conducting a Consumer Retail Survey as a key component of a larger Retail Demand Study.
Sara Chamberlain, the Team Leader for the City of Airdrie Economic Development explained that the city is doing the survey.
"It is asking people questions about their shopping preferences and habits so that the City of Airdrie can better understand where Airdrie residents are spending their money, and, more importantly, where they would like to spend their money."
No human remains found in large-scale search of Bow River
No human remains were discovered during a large-scale search operation conducted along the Bow River and its surrounding banks on Saturday. The search involved various local agencies at 9 a.m. from the Fish Creek Provincial Park Boat Launch in Calgary’s southern end. The RCMP and Alberta Forestry and Parks led the search outside Calgary city limits.
Sgt. Amy George of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) Missing Persons Team emphasized the importance of these efforts, revealing that 3,572 people have been reported missing in Calgary so far this year.
Nose Creek Park entrance off-limits – Here’s what you need to know
The City of Airdrie is reminding residents that the entrance to Nose Creek Park will be off-limits on Monday due to the entranceway being paved.
Although the closure is scheduled to last from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, the weather may postpone the paving to a later date.

Alberta MP and Conservative Agriculture Critic John Barlow has been receiving a number of emails from Canadians who are concerned about Private Members' Bill C-293, which now sits before the Senate.
He says while the primary objective of the bill is pandemic prevention and preparedness, it contains content and language that will adversely affect Canadian farmers and ranchers.
Mountain View County hands out the 2024 Farm Family Award
Earlier this month, Mountain View County (MVC) honoured the Hadway family as the recipient of the 2024 Farm Family Award.
According to MVC, the Hadway family has deep roots in Alberta’s agriculture.
"Dating back to 1886 when Tom Hadway’s great-grandfather drove cattle to Langdon for the Powder River Cattle Company. Tom’s family immigrated from Ukraine, while Carol’s family settled east of Didsbury in 1911."
In 1974, Tom's parents purchased land in Didsbury, and after completing his education, Tom joined them to incorporate Westway Farms in 1983, explained MVC.
