Classroom of the Month: May 2025

The winners for May were at Three Lakes School in Middle Lake. We were surprised to find out it was a three-grade split! The Grade K/1/2 classroom was the lucky winners!

Oh, there was pomp and ceremony - King Charles delivering Canada's Speech from the Throne yesterday. He endeared many Canadians with a smooth delivery, proclaiming the "True North is indeed strong and free".

The speech, of course, is drafted by our federal government and outlines policy priorities.

Our Liberal government plans to reduce taxes for the middle-class which makes up the majority of our population. 

Downtown ministry rolls out the red carpet for youth film festival

Dozens of people attended the Youth for Christ Film Festival Fundraiser on May 27.  

It was an evening of film, faith, and fun, celebrating the work done by the youth. They created the short films by taking the lead in roles like the cast and crew.

Attendees enjoyed a red-carpet experience, complete with a volunteer photographer who captured special moments all evening. Coffee and popcorn were prepared and served.

Seeding complete and herbicide application underway at Moffat farm

With seeding officially wrapped up across much of the southwest, local producer Daryl Moffat says things are off to a promising start on his family-run grain farm located northwest of Cabri in the RMs of Riverside and Miry Creek.

"We completed seeding about eight or nine days ago," said Daryl Moffat. "We just did our first load of in-crop herbicide on some canola today."

‘Put your mask on first’: How a Winnipeg group is caring for caregivers in mental health

As May comes to a close, one Winnipeg non-profit is hoping to continue the conversation about Mental Health Awareness. 

"Peer Connections MB is a peer support organization providing support to any Manitoban with a mental health concern or a substance use issue," says Julia Hoeppner, the Executive Director of Peer Connections MB. "We offer several options for service, the first being peer support. Which is people connecting over shared experiences."
