College students choose service over fun for spring break, assist in hurricane recovery efforts

After Hurricane Helene devastated thousands of people in North Carolina, over a hundred young adults have chosen to help clean up during their spring break rather than take a holiday. 

Cru campus ministry has sent out 150 volunteers to areas in North Carolina, including Ashville, a town that was unexpectedly almost washed out after Hurricane Helene six months ago.

Who is the Classroom of the Month for March?

Our Classroom of the Month for March is teacher Madison LaClaire and her Grade 6 class at Westmount Elementary School. 

According to LaClaire, the class had been waiting all week for the celebration.

"It was really fun to see them really excited for the pizza, we've been talking about it all week."

The class was surprised with slices from Boston Pizza and prizes from Encore Elevator.

This is LaClaire's first year teaching in Strathmore, and she said she's loving it.

"It's great to be in a small community."
