Local trucking company makes surprise donation to Transition House, matches funds raised from Fleur Fashion Show

Rockport Carrier surprised Moose Jaw Transition House with an additional $5,000 donation after the success of the Fleur Fashion Show last weekend. The event raised a total of $5,000.

Jenn Angus, executive director at Moose Jaw Transition House, was overjoyed to receive the matching donation.

"What it means is that our shelter is going to get some much-needed love and attention, and some cosmetic upgrades that it really needs," she remarked.

The Fleur Fashion Show at Rowan Clothing last weekend was a huge success!

The 140-seat venue was sold out within 48 hours of tickets going on sale. There was also a huge waiting list of people hoping to attend the event. 

Over $5000 was donated to Moose Jaw Transition House, which plans to use the money to improve the quality of its housing. 

Heathir Coakwell, Owner of Rowan Clothing, loved seeing the excitement and encouragement in the room. 

Girl Guides busy fundraising for summer trips

Girl Guides has just kicked off their spring cookie sale!

The girls are selling chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies for $6 per box. 

Group and Spark Leader Melanie Pilloud says this time of year is exciting for all the girls. 

"That's the time that we're in the community, you can see us, and no one can say no to those cute little faces," Pilloud exclaimed. "It's definitely my favourite season!"

Pilloud mentioned that the girls do a lot of badgework, put on events, and learn different activities.

Local fashion show at Rowan Clothing this Saturday

The Fleur Fashion Show is happening down at Rowan Clothing this Saturday. 

The sold-out event will feature flowers, fashion, and local celebrity Megan Nash as the master of ceremonies. 

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Moose Jaw Transition House. 

Jenn Angus, Executive Director of the Transition House, said the proceeds will allow workers to improve the quality of housing for the women and children that come to them. 

Lee Behrns accepts position of principal at Cornerstone Christian School

Lee Behrns will be taking over as principal of Cornerstone Christian School (CCS) this fall.

Behrns has been working there since 1998 when CCS first opened its high school wing. He has enjoyed watching the school blossom. 

"When I started off, I was teaching a number of high school classes when things were first getting going," Behrns commented. "I've seen it grow a lot since those early days."

Stephen Adkins wins this month's "Notoriously Good Neighbour" title

Stephen Adkins has been named the "Notoriously Good Neighbour" for the month of March. 

The City of Moose Jaw and Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce wanted to recognize the people who make a "Notoriously Positive" difference in our community. 

Adkins did just that by rushing his neighbour, Kelly Reynolds, to the hospital after she suffered a critical cut on her arm. 

Not only did Adkins take Reynolds to the hospital, but he cleaned up the glass and mess that had been made in her house. 

Local taekwondo athletes bring home 20 medals from provincials

Students from Kim's Taekwondo brought home 20 medals from provincials. 

The tournaments took place in Swift Current and Regina. Kellan and Ella Mickleborough both brought home gold from provincials. 

Students that competed include Jasmyn Hrynyk, Nick Arseneault, Caitlin Delaurier, Jesse Smyth, Finnegan Chow, Kellan Mickleborough, Oliver Smyth, Cullain Smyth, Keira Anderson, Ella Mickleborough, Mattea Jeanson, and Bri Jeanson. Those that competed ranged from age 6 to those in their mid-forties. 

Motorcycle enthusiast sets out to win Dream Chopper contest

Moose Jaw's very own Johnny Beam is competing in the Orange County Choppers and Hope For the Warriors' Dream Chopper contest. 

If Beam wins, he will have the opportunity to design his dream motorcycle alongside legendary motorcycle manufacturer, Paul Teutul Sr. 

Motorcycle enthusiasts all over North America are competing for people's votes. Contestants are encouraged to post videos and decorate their social media, as they will have better chances of winning. 

Bugsy's celebrating the luck of the Irish this Friday

Big things are happening down at Bugsy's Irish Pub for St. Patrick's Day. 

The restaurant will be doing giveaways on behalf of Guinness and selling St. Patrick's-themed green beer. 

Singer Harreson James will be performing at the pub starting at 4 pm.

General Manager Mark Abbey is encouraging people to come down and celebrate the St. Pattie's Day fun!

"It's going to be an action-packed, fun-filled day!"

Abbey also mentioned that St. Patrick's Day is the bar's busiest day of the year.
