Planned power outage: Guernsey Thurs. Nov.14

SaskPower has announced that there will be a planned power outage that affects customers in the Guernsey area on Thursday, November 14.  

To work safely and to improve the power system in the area, the power will be shut off to residents southwest of Guernsey from 10am-2pm on Thursday.

Fateful Friday for collisions between motor vehicles and moose

The end of last week was a tough one on moose and motorists with no fewer than five motor vehicle collisions with moose throughout the province within thirty minutes. 

A release from Saskatchewan RCMP cautions motorists following the five collisions being reported to the Divisional Operations Communications Centre. The collisions occurred in the vicinity of Hudson Bay, Rose Valley, Prince Albert, Melfort/Kinistino and Southey areas on Friday, November 8 between 6:20 and 6:45 pm. 

Candidates for Horizon Board Subdivision 7 - Sarah Sunderland and Jim Lissinna

Tomorrow is the day voters in the Horizon School Division go to the polls to select their Trustee members for the Board. While a number of Trustees have been decided through acclamation, there are subdivisions where the Board is counting on strong voter turnout.  

One such subdivision is Number 7, which covers the communities of Archerwill, Rose Valley and Kelvington and their surrounding areas. Two candidates are vying for the position.  

Broncos split a pair in a cross-province weekend

The Humboldt Broncos brought a split decision from the road back home after a pair of weekend games.  

Boris Kofman secured a shootout victory for the Broncos on Saturday against the Millionaires in Melville. The Broncos were plagued by penalties leaving them in a couple 5 on 3 situations, but they powered through a penalty ridden affair that saw goaltender Brady Holtvogt shine turning away 31 of 33.  

SGI highlighting the importance of designated drivers in November

SGI will be using their November Traffic Safety Spotlight to remind everyone of the importance of designated drivers.  

Last year, drug and/or alcohol impairment was a factor in 32 per cent of traffic fatalities in Saskatchewan.   

Throughout the holiday season, there are options for a safe ride home including: 

-Take a cab, rideshare or use a designated driving service,  

City of Humboldt releases statement on departure of Marketing and Development Manager Penny Lee

 

The City of Humboldt has announced that Penny Lee’s employment with the city has ended. 

In a release, the city said they found that Lee's personal views on certain matters no longer align with her role and duties with the city, and it was concluded that her employment with the city should come to an end

Carlton Trail College receives donation of beds from Humboldt District Health Complex

Thanks to support provided by the Saskatchewan Health Authority this fall, two acute care hospital beds were donated to Carlton Trail College by the Humboldt District Health Complex. Worth approximately $15,000, the specialty bed donation enables the re-use of functional medical equipment, while supporting local healthcare training needs.   

Remembrance Day Services in Humboldt and area

The Humboldt Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28 invites the public to participate in its annual Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11. The schedule for the event is as follows: 

  • 10:45 am – Gather in the lobby of the St. Augustine Church 

  • 10:55 am – Parade into the church 

  • 11:00 am – Last post – Two minutes of silence – Reveille 

*Weekend Update* Learn how to make Filipino parol lanterns on Nov.16 at the Humboldt Museum

With the holiday season just around the corner, there’s an opportunity to learn how to make a parol lantern at the Humboldt & District Museum on Saturday, November 16 from 5-6:30 pm.  

A parol is a traditional Filipino lantern that is displayed during the Christmas season. Typically shaped like a star, the parol dates to the 1500s in Filipino culture.
