Provincials

In Senior ‘A’ provincials, the Drake Canucks were eliminated by the Loreburn 19ers on Saturday as Loreburn defeated Drake 6-5, winning the best of three series 2-0.

The Wynyard Monarchs now know their opponent in the second round of provincials following a first-round bye, as they will meet the Round Lake Bears. The Bears advanced with a two-game sweep of the Balcarres Broncs.

Broncos pick up three points over the weekend

Friday: Battlefords 5 Humboldt 1

The Broncos may want to immediately throw out the game tape from Friday’s 5-1 loss to the Battlefords North Stars, and after a 9-game point streak, they’ve had a small set back, dropping two-straight.

It came down to effort at the Access Communications Centre, Battlefords simply wanted it more. It was no surprise the North Stars were hungry entering the game as the Broncos handed them a 10-3 beatdown in the meeting prior. The surprising part was Humboldt didn’t seem ready for it.
