RCMP release more details about dangerous person alert

The Saskatchewan RCMP have released more details about the dangerous person alert that was sent out this morning.

Punnichy RCMP responded to a report of an armed person at a residence on Muskowekwan First Nation at approximately 2 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, a gun was fired, and an officer was hit. The officer was taken to hospital with injuries that are described as non-life-threatening.

The suspect then left the residence on foot. Police say there were other people in the house, but no physical injuries were reported.

Residents reminded about Active Families Benefit program

Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Alana Ross was at the Yara Centre on Thursday to remind residents about the province’s Active Families Benefit program. 

The Active Families Benefit is an annual refundable provincial tax benefit to help make children’s sports and recreational activities more affordable for families. 

Local M.P. comments on calls to lower Canada's voting age

Senator Marilou McPhedran's calls for Canada to follow the United Kingdom's lead in lowering the voting age to 16 has garnered national attention and become a topic of discussion for many since the idea was floated earlier this week.

Coronach and Bengough RCMP investigating theft, request assistance from public

The theft of personal items, including a debit card, from a parked vehicle in Bengough by an unknown individual or individuals is being investigated by local RCMP. 

The theft occurred between June 30 and July 1, and the stolen debit card was used at two businesses on Albert Street in Regina.

As a result of further investigation, the suspect was captured on video surveillance. The suspect is described as male, appearing to be in their late 20s to early 30s, approximately 6' to 6'3" tall with a stocky build. 

MJPS see clearance rates surge, crime severity drops in 2024

The Moose Jaw Police Service saw a significant increase in crime clearance rates in 2024, while crime severity dropped, according to new data from Statistics Canada. 

The police service dealt with 3,734 actual incidents in 2024, a 4.7 per cent decrease from 3,831 in 2023. However, that number was up from 3,334 in 2020. 

Of those incidents, 141 — or 3.64 per cent — were deemed unfounded. 

Mavericks snap Miller Express's winning streak

The Medicine Hat Mavericks picked up a 17-6 win Wednesday night at Ross Wells Park to end the Moose Jaw Miller Express’s three-game winning streak. 

After a scoreless first inning, Medicine Hat scored two runs in the top of the second. Moose Jaw replied with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. Tanner DeGrazia doubled to bring home Eduardo Saenz, and Robert Estrada scored on an error by the centre-fielder.
