EFR responds to vehicle fires, rollover, and structure fire
Estevan Fire Rescue (EFR) responded to multiple incidents this week, including vehicle fires and a vehicle rollover.
On December 2, 2024, at around 1:30 p.m., EFR was dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover south of the city. Crews, along with EPS, RCMP, and EMS, responded to the scene. No entrapment or injuries were reported, and EFR assistance was not required.
Toy Drive helps gets gifts to kids who need them this Christmas
Estevan Fire Rescue is one of the organizations that has been helping to get more toys into children's hands this Christmas thanks to a recent toy drive.
They held that at the Canadian Tire in Estevan on December 7th, with donations accepted over a few hours.

Macoun house destroyed in overnight fire, no injuries reported
A fire destroyed a home in Macoun last night, with crews battling the blaze until 10 a.m. this morning.
“We arrived on scene, and the garage was fully engulfed; it had already spread to the ceiling,” said Laverne Hockey, Fire Chief for Midale. “The house was attached, and we started putting water on it to contain the fire. We called Estevan for mutual aid, and they came out and gave us a hand, which was awesome.”
Despite the quick spread, no injuries were reported, and everyone made it out safely.

Estevan Police respond to wide range of calls over busy weekend, including alarms and vehicle incidents
Estevan Police were kept on their toes over the weekend, responding to a variety of incidents that included false alarms, impaired driving reports, disturbances outside local bars, and even a suspicious vehicle on the move. From well-being checks to mischief and breaches of court orders, officers had their hands full handling 47 occurrences between Dec. 6 and Dec. 8, 2024.
Suspect in White Bear murder appears in court, other still wanted by RCMP
One of the suspects accused in the murder of a White Bear First Nation man appeared in the Estevan Provincial Court this morning.
22-year-old Jeremy Whitebear appeared by telephone this morning to hear his charge of second-degree murder. Whitebear is in custody of the Carlyle RCMP in connection to the death of Talon Lonethunder. His case has been adjourned until Monday, December 16.
Lonethunder was found dead inside a home in White Bear First Nation on December 3. Carlyle RCMP also charged 26-year-old Dwayne Maxie with manslaughter alongside Whitebear.

Randy passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Estevan, Sask., surrounded by the love of his family on December 6, 2024, at the age of 68. A Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., and a Funeral Service to honour Randy will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Hall Funeral Services in Estevan, with Shirley Petterson officiating.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre's latest attempt to topple the minority Liberal government in a non-confidence vote has failed, with the New Democrats and Liberals voting against the motion.
The Conservative motion quoted NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh's own criticism of the Liberals, and called on the House to agree with Singh and vote non-confidence in the government.
The New Democrat leader said he would not be supporting the motion last week.
