UPDATE: GP RCMP responding to collision on Hwy 40

Update: Grande Prairie RCMP would like to advise the public that both lanes of traffic are now open on Highway 40.  Road conditions continue to be described as slippery.  Drivers are asked to continue to exercise caution and practice safe winter driving habits. 

 

 

Grande Prairie RCMP are responding to a collision involving a logging truck and a sanding vehicle on Highway 40, between the Canfor Road and the Cutbank River.

Minor injuries were reported and emergency services remain on scene.

Robbery

The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a robbery which took place on November 23rd, 2024, at approximately 10:45pm.  Two unidentified males approached a female in the 1800 block of Louise Avenue and assaulted her before taking some of her personal belongings.  If you know the identity of the suspects or have any information about this or any other crime, please contact the Brandon Police Service at 1-204-729-2345 or submit a tip anonymously at crimestoppers.ca

Update:Nanton offices are closed, so ATCO can do some work

The main offices for the Town of Nanton closed this morning.

The Town took to Facebook just before 9 a.m. today to let people know that their main office was closed so ATCO could resolve an issue.

Initially, they were not sure when the work will be completed, and they would be able to reopen, but at 10:26 a.m., the Town took to Facebook to let everyone know that the work was completed, and the office has reopened.

Province lays out approach for the next four years in throne speech

The Saskatchewan government is looking at their new term with the legislative session beginning yesterday with a throne speech.

Airdrie's holiday season is kicking off this weekend, with two beloved events returning to the city.

New City of Humboldt Council sworn in

The City of Humboldt has sworn in its 2024 – 2028 Council. The ceremony took place immediately prior to the regular meeting of council on Monday, November 15.  

City solicitor Tabitha Gasper led each of the newly elected council members through the oath of office.  

Returning Mayor Rob Muench was among the veterans returning to council. Veterans Larry Jorgenson and Roger Korte were also sworn in. Marilyn Scott also returned to claim a council seat after a several term absence. 

Weyburn sends off shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child

Weyburn's contribution of 470 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child were loaded up onto a truck on Sunday from the Weyburn Free Methodist Church. 

Danielle Koeslag, Weyburn Coordinator said last year they were able to load up 480 shoeboxes. "So we're very close."

Drop-off dates began Monday, with the final time slot at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Koeslag said quite a few came in earlier in the week, with 150 boxes coming in Friday from Life Centre Church.

"The majority of them came kind of that Thursday, Friday mark," she noted. 

Come say hi to Santa this Friday in Lacombe

Santa Claus is coming to Lacombe and will be hanging out at L.A. Carpet & Tile this Friday from 10-2. Not only will the kids be able to bring along their letters to Santa, but they can visit with Santa, and grab a few treats. 

This Friday is a PD day for most schools, so a great day to bring the kids down to meet the big guy.

Santa will also be looking to collect toys to help make the holidays extra special for families in need.

In response to rising questions and concerns from residents about the upcoming changes to Alberta’s auto insurance system, the government has launched a new website to try to quell anxiety and provide details on the proposed Care-First model and rate cap increases starting in January 2025.
