Girders installed, new detours complete as overpass project enters fourth month

The project to replace the HWY 2 over Trans-Canada HWY 1 overpass continues to make steady progress as it enters its fourth month.

Construction on new concrete abutments and piers for the northbound bridges was completed this month, allowing for the installation of bridge girders. Work on installing the new bridge deck has now begun and could be complete by the end of this construction season.

School's out, but what about school zones?

School's out for summer, but speed limits have only changed in some areas.

Students at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools had their last day on June 25, with Foothills School Division students finishing on June 27.

In Okotoks, school zones are no longer in effect now that the school year has ended. The signs apply only on school days, typically from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and only during the school year. Playground zones remain in effect, as always.

That’s not the case in High River.

Splashing into summer, Kindersley’s Canada Day packs in the fun

Sunshine, laughter and a strong sense of community filled the air as Kindersley residents gathered to celebrate Canada Day with a full slate of activities.

The Kindersley Museum was the heart of the morning festivities, hosting a pancake breakfast and serving cake, which was cut by Mayor Rod Perkins and Retta Thompson, a long-time resident who celebrated her 100th birthday this summer. A flag ceremony with the local Legion also took place at the museum.

Riders raise spirits and support at annual K-Town Toy Run

The roar of engines and the spirit of giving returned to west-central Saskatchewan as the 2025 K-Town Memorial Toy Run hit the highway June 28, bringing together bikers and supporters for a heartfelt cause.

Now in its fourth year under the leadership of Kelly and Joan Phinney, the annual event collects toys for children in need and raises funds for the West Central Crisis Centre. This year’s route stretched 225 kilometres, with stops in Kerrobert, Luseland, Colville, and back to Kindersley. Riders wrapped up the day with a banquet and prize giveaways at the Kindersley Inn.

Potent storm system to track across southern Saskatchewan tonight

A hot and breezy day is setting the stage for yet another powerful storm to make its way across much of the Prairies. 

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), a system bearing strong wind, rain, and hail will roll into southern Saskatchewan, ultimately hitting the Moose Jaw area in the late evening. 

Canada Day flag raising marks a special occasion for Swift Current family

A family from the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre helped celebrate Canada Day in a special way on Tuesday. 

The Aracena Family immigrated to Canada from the Philippines and became Canadian citizens in February 2025. They were accompanied by representatives from the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre to participate in the ceremonial flag raising at the Canada Together event.  

Final police report of June shows investigation into mischief, noise complaints

The Estevan Police Service detailed some of their calls as of June 30th, wrapping up the month. 

In one call, police received a report of mischief to property. They found that a local city park had been damaged by graffiti. The matter is still being investigated, with the EPS asking for assistance from the public to report suspicious activity or pass along any information relating to the graffiti.

Sidewalk Days gets underway tomorrow

One of Moose Jaw' biggest summer events, Kinsmen Sidewalk Days, kicks off tomorrow morning in Downtown Moose Jaw.

Main Street will be closed from Ross Street to Manitoba Street for vendors, entertainment, food trucks and more.

It all gets underway from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. The festivities kick off again on Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and wraps up on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Executive director for Tourism Moose Jaw said their isn't a whole lot new with this year's Sidewalk Days.
