Third annual Fall Festival brings autumn joy to Kinsmen Park

For the first time, the Strathmore Full Gospel Church relocated its annual Fall Festival to a new venue.

The event was hosted at the church itself for the first two years, but this year it was moved to Kinsmen Park on Saturday (Sept. 13).

The festival featured bouncy castles, potato sack races, horse rides, and other family-friendly activities.

There were also several live music performances led by pastor Kyle Lomenda.

It’s the last day to register to vote in the municipal election

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming municipal election is looming.  

To appear on the Permanent Electors Register, voters must register today (Sept. 15).  

On election day, voters who are registered must provide a valid ID with their name and address before casting their ballot.

Penhold Waskasoo Middle School celebrates grand opening

Penhold Waskasoo Middle School officially opened its doors Friday with a celebration that included student leaders, local politicians and Chinook’s Edge School Division representatives.

Principal Lisa Baird said the day marked more than the launch of a new building.

“It’s not just about our classrooms and hallways — it’s about building a home for learning and belonging,” she said in a previous interview.

Students played key roles in the event, with Grade 7 student Clover emceeing the program and classmate Jayden leading the land acknowledgement.

Newly revitalized basketball court opens at Winnipeg high school

A newly designed outdoor basketball court has opened at a Winnipeg high school.

Over the weekend, the Winnipeg School Division, together with Buckets & Borders, the Winnipeg Sea Bears and WarriorZ Basketball, opened up a newly revitalized court at RB Russell Vocational High School that features a powerful mural titled “Basketball is Medicine.”

The design was created by Anishinaabe woodlands artist Blake Angeconeb and reflects growth, protection, and healing, symbolizing the power of sport and culture to bring people together.

Cochrane gears up for annual Fall Food Drive

The Cochrane Food Bank Society is gearing up for its annual Fall Food Drive, set for next Saturday, September 20th, starting at 10 a.m.

Residents in several neighbourhoods,including Rivercrest, River Heights, The Willows, Riviera, Precedence, Riversong, Glen Eagles, East End, Glenbow, Riverview, Cochrane Heights, Sunterra, Sunset, and Greystone, are encouraged to leave non-perishable food donations on their doorsteps that morning.

Volunteers will handle collection throughout the day.

Saskatchewan expands rural physician training with new residency seats in Nipawin and Melfort

The Government of Saskatchewan, in collaboration with the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine, is expanding rural physician training with the addition of four new family medicine residency seats—two each in Nipawin and Melfort—set to begin in July 2026 as part of the Canadian Residency Match System (CaRMS).
