Q. Why are you running for mayor/council?
A. I chose to run for council again because I felt I have something to offer as a city councillor. I am a common sense problem solver with a business background. I love this community and will put its citizens first when making decisions about the city and the those who live here.

Becker looks to bring new ideas if elected for mayor
A current town councillor has thrown his name in the hat to run for mayor of the Town of Herbert and is keen to bring a fresh outlook to the table.
Born and raised in Swift Current, Ron Becker and his wife decided to move to the Town of Herbert over three and a half years ago and have enjoyed being closer to family, as well as becoming passionate about the community.
The former automotive technician noted that he isn't interested in the position for financial reasons, but rather to develop and further improve the town.
From poutine bars to plant tours, Manitoba conference celebrates women in ag
Field work is pretty much complete in Manitoba and it is the time of year when plans are starting for 2025. Over the next several months, many big events will be held from conferences to trade shows and more. Some of these events focus on woman and all they bring to the industry.
The Manitoba Farm Women’s Conference, an annual highlight for women involved in agriculture, is set to take place from November 18th to 20th in Winnipeg. Co-chair Doris Doelger is a co-chair and speaks passionately about the events, admitting her current job came as a result of a past conference.
Time change for Remembrance Day setup
If you were wanting to help out with Remembrance Day setup at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Sunday, there’s been a slight change of plans.
“Usually there’s a hockey game on the evening before – the 10th of November – and this year there isn’t one,” explained Christine Simpson, first vice-president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59.
WPS called to de-escalate situation at medical facility
On Tuesday of last week, the Weyburn Police Service received a call from a medical facility seeking assistance with an unruly patient. Deputy Chief Shane St. John says their presence was enough to ease the situation.
“Sometimes it's just that police presence can calm things down. You don't want it to escalate. They're not, the general public or workers. it's a tough situation when someone's in the facility and they're really acting violent or in a threatening manner, but they are where they need to be to get the help that they need. It's a tough balance.”
Police comment on Crescent Park encampment concerns
At today’s Board of Police Commissioners meeting, the Moose Jaw Police Service revealed that they’ve been conducting a project in Crescent Park to determine if there is an issue with encampments.
The 21-day project took place Oct. 7 through Oct. 28, after concerns from the public about perceived encampments in the park, with regular checks undertaken by police during the day and night to look for shelters and tents in the area.
SHA releases advisory on Typhoid Exposure from Dominos
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has issued a public alert for possible typhoid fever exposure linked to a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Martensville, located at 717 Centennial Dr. S. The SHA stated that individuals who consumed food from this location between October 11 and 19 may be at risk, although the chance of contracting typhoid is considered low.
RM of De Salaberry work on projects to bring the community together
The Rural Municipality of De Salaberry is working on upgrades in the area.
Reeve Darrel Curé says they are excited to have baseball diamonds by the Grotto in St Malo once again
“Right now, the RM is working with the parish that owns that piece of property. And we are working with them to establish the baseball diamonds on the parish’s land.”
Holy Trinity enrolment up 21 students
Holy Trinity Catholic School Division’s enrolment at the end of September 2024 was 21 students higher than the previous year, with a grand total of 2465 students in the division.
“It is this school division’s highest enrolment since at least September of 2012, and probably longer than that – that's just as far back as we have data,” said Curt Van Parys, Chief Financial Officer with Holy Trinity Catholic School Division (HTCSD).
Cornhole craze connects in community
A new social sports league is making its way into Portage la Prairie, as The Portage Cornhole Club prepares to host its first tournament this month. The event, taking place on November 23 in the Glesby Center, marks the beginning of a winter series that aims to keep the popular backyard game alive throughout the colder months.
