Bulldogs receive commitment from 2007-born forward Harout Arutyunyan for next season

The Blackfalds Bulldogs have announced that 2007-born forward, Harout Arutyunyan, has committed to the team for the 2025-2026 BCHL season.

The Glendale, California product played for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U AAA team this season, scoring 24 goals and 45 points in 39 games.

Bulldogs’ Director of Player Personnel, Al Parada noted, “Harout is a big, strong-skating power forward who has the skill set to step into the BCHL next season and be an impact player.

City of Red Deer warning residents about parking ticket text scam

The City of Red Deer says it is hearing from concerned citizens who have received text messages requesting payment for parking violations. 

The City says it does not send text messages requesting payments of any kind, noting the messages are not from the City of Red Deer.

Chinook’s Edge names Chris Adamson new Associate Superintendent

Chinook’s Edge School Division has named Chris Adamson as the new Associate Superintendent of Learning Services. Adamson will assume the role in August, 2025.

“Chris is highly regarded in his current and previous roles, as a skilled educator and leader who has developed high levels of trust with students, parents, and staff as well as school and division administrators,” says Kurt Sacher, Superintendent, Chinook’s Edge School Division. “We appreciate Chris’ deep commitment to instructional leadership, professional learning, and system wide improvement.”

RCMP investigating string of fraud thefts, requesting assistance in identifying suspect

On Jan. 23, the Blackfalds RCMP began an investigation into a string of fraud-related thefts from dealerships and online marketplaces throughout Central Alberta.    

The suspects used fake bank drafts and driver’s licences to purchase properties.    

The Blackfalds RCMP is now asking for the general public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and identifying the suspect.  

Male youth charged after allegedly displaying knife at Lacombe Junior High School

Lacombe Police Service says that over the lunch hour on Wednesday (March 19), a group of young males were involved in an altercation outside of school grounds, which continued onto the property of Ècole Lacombe Junior High School. 

During this incident, one individual, who is not a student at the school, allegedly displayed a knife and caused damage to the school door. 

There were no injuries reported. 

Staff at Ècole Junior High School promptly contacted law enforcement and implemented safety protocols to ensure the ongoing safety of the students and staff. 

Central Alberta Cancer Centre parking lot now pickup and drop-off only

The small parking lot immediately south of the Central Alberta Cancer Centre (CACC) at the Red Deer Regional Hospital has transitioned to a patient pickup and drop-off area, according to a website post made January 30, 2025.

Only short-term parking will be permitted to allow family or support persons to assist patients to and from the vehicle as needed. Access to the pickup and drop-off area will continue to be from the west, off 52 Ave., only. Those accessing this area must also exit to 52 Ave.
