Eastman Warriors provide more rugby opportunities for women

As the rugby scene continues to grow in the southeast, the Eastman Warriors are looking to form a women’s team.

Isi Masi notes that the Steinbach Regional Secondary School’s women’s rugby team is performing exceptionally well, and he hopes to give those players a chance to continue competing beyond high school.

Dream in motion: Friend’s legacy inspires launch of motocross ministry

A ministry from southern Manitoba is combining motocross and faith as it hosts its first event at the end of June.

"It's ride day camps for kids or adults, whoever wants to come out and just hang out and ride dirt bikes," says Kevin Nolt, who started Activate Motocross Ministry. "We'll eat some BBQ food, and there'll be some discussions and videos on faith-based subjects."

The inspiration behind the name 'Activate' comes from Mark 16:15, in which it says, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

A good sweat: Move to Make a Difference returns this weekend in Weyburn

Most fundraisers look fairly similar nowadays. No matter how you raise the money, if it’s for a good cause, people can always rally behind it. Although from 50/50’s to raffles and giveaways, it can seem kind of repetitive or for lack of a better word, ‘boring’.

The Athletic Club noticed this as well and launched a new type of fundraiser called Move to Make a Difference. Combining the feel-good feeling of a fundraiser with the feel-good feeling of a great workout; they’re hoping they can raise funds for a good cause and raise your heartrate while they're at it.

A team from two tiny schools

The Falcons represent a unique partnership between Border Valley and Blumenfeld schools. On their own, neither school has the numbers to field a full basketball team, but together they form a squad of just 160 students — total.

The Family Place celebrates 30 years in style

The Family Place saw an amazing turnout for their 30th anniversary celebration on Tuesday, where they offered up hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, popcorn, and cupcakes for hundreds to enjoy. The grill was manned by volunteers from Vermillion Energy, with volunteers also on hand from Microtel Weyburn.

It was perfect weather for the families who brought their children to play entirely outdoors on the bouncy castles, games, and play equipment, with bubble-blowing, face and arm painting, and even a petting zoo.

Nick Knack: Worst foods to share

Most of us grew up watching Lady and the Tramp and dreaming about having our own spaghetti moment. The thing is, some foods just aren't share-worthy—no matter what you learned in kindergarten.

On Nick Cooper in the Morning, we chatted about the foods we really shouldn’t be sharing, and we came up with quite a list.

Foods that made the “do not share” list include:

  • Suckers/Lollipops

  • Soup (two spoons sharing the same bowl—no thanks)

  • Cereal (same issue as soup)
