Boomtown Days 

Shaunavons largest annual event has officially kicked off with events and activities for all. 

Today’s events will begin this morning at 8:00 a.m., with a pancake breakfast at the Shaunavon Elks Hall. 

At 9:00 a.m., the Market at the Museum and Tradeshow will open, located at the Grand Coteau. The tradeshow will remain open until 2:00 p.m. 

Court case for human trafficking incident at southwest restaurants begins

Two individuals made their first appearance in Rosetown court yesterday regarding a human trafficking case which involved restaurants in Gull Lake, Elrose, and Tisdale. 

52-year-old Sohel Haider, from Elrose and 41-year-old, Mohammed Masum from Tisdale made their first court appearance after initially being arrested and charged on June 29. 

Historical house receives grant for signage and community space 

The Wallace Stegner House, in Eastend, has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from the Innovation Credit Union’s Legacy Community & Development Grant Fund.  

The funds will be utilized to install informative signage and transform the house's yard into a community space, allowing visitors to engage with the renowned author's legacy. 

Wildfire smoke causes Special Air Quality Statement

Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Swift Current, Herbert, Cabri, Kyle, and Lucky Lake. 

Wildfire smoke is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility to a dense plume of near-surface smoke that has moved into southwest Saskatchewan. 

The smoke is travelling from wildfires in the northwest and conditions across the south are deteriorating rapidly. 

RM of Excelsior declares local emergency

At a special council meeting yesterday, a Local State of Emergency was declared for the RM of Excelsior No. 166. 

The emergency was declared for the entire RM due to an existing agriculture disaster caused by severe drought conditions, an infestation of gophers, and an infestation of grasshoppers.  

In a press release, Reeve Harv Schulz, elaborated on the cause of the local emergency. 

Dufresne and Swift Current SPCA join forces for adoption fair

This weekend, Dufresne Furniture and Appliance Store will join forces with the Swift Current SPCA to host an exciting adoption fair.  

The event, which aims to find loving homes for animals in need, will take place this Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Dufresne Furniture and Appliance Store parking lot. 

Tornado warning issued

A tornado warning has been issued by Environment Canada for the R.M of Carmichael.

Meteorologists are tracking a thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado.

It is also a possibility that thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall.

The storm is currently located about 20 km south of Tompkins and is moving east at 15 kilometres an hour.

Record turnout at Swift Current Pride march

The streets of Swift Current were alive with vibrant colours as the annual Pride march took place on Saturday.  

Led by Southwest Saskatchewan Pride, the event commenced at noon, departing from Market Square.  

Dawn Caswell, a member of Southwest Saskatchewan Pride, expressed her excitement over the overwhelming support and the significance of the event.
