Landlord dispute, vehicle recovery among Biggar RCMP's early August calls
It's been a busy start to August for the Biggar RCMP.
The first call back on the fourth took members to the remnants of a rural crime scene, as described by Cst. Chad Mehl with the detachment.
"On August 4th, thieves attempted unsuccessfully to get a water cannon from a farm outside of Biggar, but didn’t get far by clipping it on nearby farm equipment, damaging the axles of the water cannon."
Hot, humid weather targeting West Central through Wednesday

The West Central region is being set ablaze with high temperatures to start the week.
Joining most of the region at a high of 33, Kyle is the only place currently under a heat warning, though the hot and humid conditions are very apparent around the entire region. Things are a little different, but still warm to the north around Unity as we can expect temperatures to hover right around the 30-degree mark.

Delisle athletes highlight Week 2 at Canada Summer Games
2500 athletes traded spots during turnaround day on Monday at the Canada Summer Games in St. Johns Newfoundland.
After a training day, the second week of events starts today with a brand-new batch of athletes. Locally, week two will feature athletes in athletics, men's softball, men's volleyball, and wrestling. Other sports include male box lacrosse, mountain bike, diving, golf, and female soccer, those disciplines joining artistic swimming and female baseball making their summer games debut.
Artists gather in Eston for a weekend of creativity and community
Plein Air Saskatchewan is returning for its fourth year, bringing artists from across the prairies to West Central Saskatchewan for a weekend dedicated to painting, community, and connecting with nature.
The event, running Aug. 21–24 in Eston, is built around the practice of plein air painting, a French term meaning “outdoors,” where artists paint directly from the landscape around them.
Paul Trottier, who owns Hues Art Supply in Saskatoon and serves as facilitator of the event, said the idea came together about five years ago.
Saskatchewan reports 69 active wildfires, recovery efforts underway
As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Saskatchewan has 69 active wildfires, with seven contained, eight not contained, 36 under ongoing assessment, and 18 focused on protecting values, the province reported.
Improved weather conditions have reduced the immediate threat of wildfire, and no communities are currently under evacuation orders. All highways remain open. Orders have been lifted for the Northern Hamlet of Jans Bay, Patuanak/English River First Nation, La Plonge Reserve, and priority residents of the Northern Village of Beauval.
“It still doesn’t feel real”: West Central local cashes in $100K prize
A Zealandia woman is $100,000 richer after matching the last six digits in a recent EXTRA draw.
Laura Penny purchased her winning ticket at the Red Apple store in Rosetown for the July 23 LOTTO 6/49 draw. She said she always adds EXTRA to her tickets, just in case.
“I matched the numbers manually on the WCLC website. I always do it manually,” Penny said with a laugh. “At first I thought I’d won $100, then $1,000, and then I realized I won more.”
Main Street Kindersley re-open as light construction around town continues
