Sights and sounds from the 2025 Summer Sizzler Kickoff Concert
For the most part, the rain held off on Thursday night as another edition of the Summer Sizzler got underway at Civic Park. Many residents brought their lawn chairs and enjoyed a night of music featuring local talent including Jodie Hergott, Brian Grest, Ray Whitton, Walter Bushman, Dave Tomchysen and more.
Along with the music, there was a fundraising barbecue with the proceeds going towards Arts Humboldt.

Crescentview holds heartfelt farewell for grade 8 students
Crescentview School marks the end of an era as it bids farewell to its grade 8 class moving on to high school.
On the morning of June 27, the school held a student-led assembly to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating students and hand out promotional certificates.

Radiothon raises $77,000 for Foothills health and wellness programs
The Sheep River Health Trust has revealed the fundraising total from the 12th annual Together We Make a Difference Radiothon.
The event was hosted by the Sheep River Health Trust (SRHT) and The Eagle 100.9 on Thursday, June 19, and it brought in $77,000.
Donations will go right back into the community, with several Foothills-area health and wellness programs to benefit from the funding.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Strathmore
Environment Canada (EC) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the area.
The watch was issued on Friday (June 27) for Wheatland County, including Strathmore, Lyalta, and Carseland.
"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain," wrote EC on its website. "Thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon and early evening."
The group added that some of the thunderstorms may also produce funnel clouds, and that driving conditions may be difficult.
Elevated fecal bacteria levels prompt advisory for Kananaskis-area pond
Alberta Health Services has issued a public advisory against swimming or wading at the Tim Horton Children’s Ranch swim pond in the Kananaskis area due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria.
Road construction notice for Range Road 61 South of Highway 668
Range Road 61 will be open to all traffic, both local traffic and through traffic from Saturday, June 28 until Monday, June 30 inclusive.
On Tuesday, July 1, the road closure will take effect again for the day. Range Road 61 will be open to local traffic only, and the Canfor Haul Road will be reduced to one lane.
On Wednesday, July 2, the road will be reopened to all traffic.
Speed will be reduced in the construction zone. Obey all signs and flag persons, exercise extreme caution, and allow extra travel time.
Fred Sandeski approved for long-term care
Fred Sandeski will be moving into long-term care at the Weyburn Special Care Home as of July 6th following a third assessment program appeal to the Ministry of Health.
In a post on social media, Fred's wife, Teresa, thanked everyone in the community who has supported their efforts to obtain this option for Fred, who had to leave his room at the care home this spring when funding ran out for his care.
"It's been a long haul, but Fred has been approved for long-term care," shared Teresa.
GPPS celebrates graduation of fourth Experienced Officer Program
The Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) has marked another milestone in its growth with the graduation of its fourth Experienced Officer Program. A ceremony was held the morning of June 27, 2025, in the Rotary Community Room of the Grande Prairie Public Library, attended by dignitaries, colleagues, and family members.
