Calgary police and firefighters were at the scene of a tipped semi-truck on Wednesday, April 23.

Police said the semi tipped just at around 9 a.m. in the intersection of 52 Street and Peigan Trail S.E.

The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries but did not require a trip to hospital.

One lane was blocked as tow trucks and crews worked to clear the scene.

Several hours after the crash, the road was fully opened to traffic.

The Aquaplex in Drumheller will be partially closed starting in June.

According to the town, the indoor pool at the facility will be closed for hot tub repairs between June 1 and September 9.

"Throughout July and August, outdoor pool operations will continue with regular hours," wrote the town. "Private bookings and lane swims will not be impacted, and full access to change rooms will remain available."

The project was given to Pinnacle Aquatics Group, with the construction coming in under budget.

With the federal election taking place on Monday, April 28, there are several candidates running to be the new MP for the Bow River riding.

Current MP Martin Shields announced earlier this that he would not be running for reelection. The Conservative Party of Canada held a vote for their new candidate, with local farmer David Bexte winning the nomination.

The 2025 Agricultural Water Management Fund is now accepting applications. This fund aims to support agricultural producers and local governments in developing effective water management projects.

According to Elections Canada, 7.3 million people cast advance ballots.

During the 2021 election, only 5.1 million Canadians took advantage of advance voting.

Currently, there is no breakdown of how many people voted in advance in the Bow River riding.

Residents will have one more chance to vote on election day, which is scheduled for April 28.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has sent out the last payment of the Canada Carbon Rebate on Tuesday, April 22.

According to the CRA, the base amount for an individual in Alberta is $228, while the amount for a family of four is $456.

The payments ended as the federal government cancelled the consumer carbon tax earlier this month.

After the consumer carbon tax ended, gas prices in Strathmore dropped by an average of 18 cents per litre.

The mother of a Calgary murder suspect has testified her son was having hallucinations and was in fear of animalistic creatures months before a young woman was stabbed to death on a downtown street.

Michael Adenyi, 29, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of fitness instructor Vanessa Ladouceur. The 30-year-old was walking to work on the morning of March 18, 2022, when she was attacked.

Health officials in Alberta are reporting 29 new cases of measles, bringing the province's total to 118 since early March.

The government says many of the new cases are in Alberta's south and central zones, seven are in the north and one is in Edmonton.

Alberta Health Services says people may have been exposed to the highly contagious disease at three medical clinics in the Edmonton area earlier this month.

Cattle market analyst Anne Wasko from Gateway Livestock says that's largely due to tariff uncertainties leading up to April 2nd. 

She notes despite that cattle prices in Western Canada have remained strong, hitting record highs across all classes of cattle with slaughter cow prices hitting another high last week.
