Update: One dead in collision near Canmore
RCMP has confirmed that a fatality has been reported in a two-vehicle collision, just south of Canmore. Police are still on the scene of the collision which occurred in the earlier morning hours on Sunday on Highway 1A, westbound headed to Windridge Road. Highway 1A from Canmore to Exshaw has reopened.
"Traffic in both directions is blocked. Officers anticipate being on the scene for several hours while they investigate this collision," stated an earlier RCMP press release.
Police reported earlier that two individuals sustained serious injuries.
Update: Serious motor vehicle collision south of Canmore
Canmore RCMP is currently on the scene of a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 1A, four kilometres South of Canmore, westbound headed to Windridge Road. Highway 1A has been reopened from Canmore to Exshaw.
RCMP has confirmed there has been a fatality.
Ice roads open at MNRF landing, Windigo Island
The Kenora area’s ice roads are opening up and residents are reminded to use them at their own risk.
Leonard Boucha, who has helped maintain local ice roads for over 30 years and provides updates on his ‘Winter Road Update for Kenora Area’ Facebook page, says the MNRF landing and the ice road to Windigo Island are now both open.

According to numerous reports, Dickson Stevenson Trail between Airdrie and Crossfield is heavily congested. While police are on the scene, trying to help traffic flow, motorists can expect major delays as travellers are trying to find other routes to avoid the highway closure on the QEII.
Fatality confirmed in fiery multi-vehicle collision north of Airdrie
Airdrie RCMP is confirming that a fatality was reported on the scene of a massive multi-vehicle collision that occurred North of Airdrie on Tuesday, December 27. Airdrie RCMP, the RCMP Collision reconstructionist, EMS and area fire departments all remain on the. Police will be on the scene for the next several hours and motorists should expect delays. Traffic continues to be diverted from the area.

At 10:35 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, Airdrie RCMP responded to a multi-vehicle collision, on Highway 2 north of Veterans Boulevard at Highway 72 in Rocky View County (Highway 2 Northbound at Range Road 293). On Wednesday, December 28, the RCMP confirmed one fatality.
First responders are assisting over a dozen vehicles involved in this event. Vehicle fires and injuries are reported.
Update: Two-semi trucks on fire near Crossfield; highway closed
Major delays are expected Northbound on the QEII highway at the junction of Highway 72 (Range Road 293) near Crossfield due to a multi-vehicle collision. There are reports of two semi-trucks that are engulfed in flames. All lanes are closed and motorists are asked to find an alternate route.
The Airdrie Professional Firefighters Association stated in a social media post that the highway at Veteran's Boulevard in Airdrie has also been shut down.
There are no details on injuries. Emergency crews are currently on the scene.
RCMP warning motorists of poor driving conditions
RCMP is warning the public of poor road conditions along Highway 2 between Red Deer and Airdrie.
"Black ice, freezing rain and changing conditions are affecting visibility and surface traction on the road. Additional reports of poor road conditions are identified in the detachment areas of Redcliff and Strathmore," an RCMP press release stated. "Please be cautious if you are travelling in the area."
Fog adding to poor visibility on roads around Airdrie
Airdrie has been placed under a fog advisory by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
According to Environment Canada, areas of dense fog have developed in areas north and east of the Calgary metro area with some drizzle also present in these fog patches, which could freeze on surfaces that remain below zero. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
"If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance."
Update: Freezing rain warning may bring trouble for motorists
The freezing rain warning has ended, though a fog advisory is in effect for Airdrie and the surrounding areas.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, a freezing rain warning was for Airdrie and the surrounding areas.
"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions," a special weather statement from Environment Canada read.
Although the main precipitation band moved out of Calgary, some freezing rain might form around noon near the Foothills and affect the region.
