U15 Energy punch ticket to playoffs

After finishing 1-1 for the day yesterday, the U15 Central Energy earned a playoff spot, and will be taking on PEI at 9:00 a.m on Diamond 1 in Winkler. 

“(We had a) tough 7-0 loss (in the) morning against ON1,” explains coach Kevin Convery. “But, bounced back to defeat SK2 in the afternoon to punch our ticket to the playoffs.”

Convery says the team has showed a lot of heart throughout the tournament. “Very proud of how our girls played today in the second game. The offense finally came back to life with 10 hits and 10 runs.”

WCBL Championship on the line as Gulls, Red Sox head to Game 3

The Sylvan Lake Gulls fell 10–7 to the Regina Red Sox Friday night (August 15), setting up a winner-take-all Game 3 for the Western Canadian Baseball League championship.

For seven innings, the game remained close, with both teams trading runs and Sylvan Lake holding a 6–4 lead after a scoreless eighth.

But the Red Sox broke things open in the ninth inning, bringing in six runs.

The Gulls managed only one in reply, sealing Regina’s victory and tying the series at one game apiece.

Boyle’s grand slam powers Padres to back-to-back titles

The Portage Padres are celebrating another Santa Clara Baseball League (SCBL) championship after edging the Plumas Pirates 7–6 in a dramatic Game 5 Friday night at Rotary Republic Park in Portage.

The Padres clinched their second straight league title, once again topping the Pirates in a hard-fought final series.

Canada Summer Games Recap: Saskatchewan falls to Quebec 9-4 in Men's Baseball, to play in bronze medal game

Team Saskatchewan's Men's Baseball teams hope for a Gold Medal were dashed today in St. John's Newfoundland at the Canada Summer Games as Quebec defeated Saskatchewan 9-4. 

Pryor Dyck of Watrous got the start. He lasted 2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits.  

Cade Britz of Muenster had an RBI in the loss.  

The best of the CFL collide in Regina as the Roughriders host the Ti-Cats

 

In the 1989 Grey Cup, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats faced off in what many Canadian football fans regard as the greatest game in Canadian Football League (CFL) history. 

And while it’s only the middle of August, it seems the two teams could be on a path to meet in the Grey Cup again, as they lead their respective divisions near the midway point of the 2025 regular season. 

Striker scores in Canada Summer Games soccer finale

Griffin Striker ended his Canada Summer Games experience on a high.

The Swift Current produced scored for Saskatchewan today as they wrapped up their Canada Summer Games soccer tournament with a 5-1 win over Manitoba.

The win secured 9th place for Saskatchewan.

They struggled in the preliminary round with back-to-back shutout losses.

Saskatchewan rebounded with a 3-0 win over Yukon and the victory over Manitoba in consolation action.

Saskatchewan falls short in Canada Summer Games baseball semi

A gold medal dream has been dashed for Shaunavon's Mason Fauser and former Swift Current resident Aiden Kilshaw at the Canada Summer Games.

They lost 9-4 to Team Quebec in the semifinal of the baseball tournament today.

Fauser didn't play in the game, while Kilshaw went 0 for 3 from the leadoff position. 

Saskatchewan's best chance came as they left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Women’s softball and box lacrosse wind down at Summer Games

Women’s box lacrosse and women’s softball events came to an end for Team Saskatchewan, which featured players from Moose Jaw. 

In the consolation game for women’s box lacrosse, Saskatchewan dropped a 3-2 loss to Manitoba. Saskatchewan’s box lacrosse team included Moose Jaw’s own Kyler Pladson. 

Meanwhile, Team Saskatchewan finished in eighth place in women’s softball after a 4-0 loss to PEI on Thursday. 

Racers on the track tonight as season starts to close for the Estevan Motor Speedway

Tonight, the Estevan Motor Speedway is hosting races to make up for a cancellation last week. Last Saturday, the races were cancelled, which featured wingless sprint cars and races in all classes.

Unfortunately, one class won't be coming to the track tonight, says Board Member Aaron Turnbull.

"They have a race scheduled somewhere else this weekend, so we weren't able to reschedule them. But we thought we'd give all our regular racers that we race with us weekly a make-up date to give them another shot at the points races as we lead up to the end of the year."

Rested Roughriders set to host Hamilton in Saturday matinee

The 7-1 Saskatchewan Roughriders are hosting the 6-3 Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday afternoon to open a CFL doubleheader.

Coming off a bye week, the Roughriders will send out the exact same lineup that dominated Montreal 34-6 back on August 2. They are currently on a three-game winning streak going back to beating BC 33-27 on July 19, and Edmonton 21-18 on July 25, the Roughriders only loss this season a 24-10 defeat to Calgary on July 12.
