Those words from Cindy Babiuk, wife of the late Al Babiuk, at recent gathering to present the proceeds of last month's Al Babiuk Memorial Fundraising Event & Open House. 

Originally organized by Al, the Killarney Fire Department quickly took the reins and renamed the event in his honour after he suddenly passed away shortly before it was to take place.

Boys Central Plains Capitals return to Manitoba U18 action

For the first time since 2020, the Portage la Prairie region has a Triple-AAA U18 hockey team. The Central Plains Capitals have been getting their legs under them to start the season with an entire roster of players who have never played U-18 hockey.

Travis Foster, a Male Director with the Central Plains Minor Hockey Board, says it's nice to have the team back.

Broncos host Americans tonight

Two of the hotter teams in the WHL face-off tonight at InnovationPlex in Swift Current.

The Tri-City Americans had won twelve games in a row before two losses on the weekend.

They visit a Swift Current Broncos club that is on a five-game winning streak and has won nine of its' last ten games.

Swift Current has been off for six days and sit two points back of Saskatoon for top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Broncos forward Luke Mistelbacher is riding a 14-game point streak into tonight's action.

WATCH/GALLERY: Back to Provincials against long-time rival

The Cochrane Cobras are heading back to the ASAA provincial championships in the hunt for their 19th provincial championship, this time against long-time rivals, the Holy Rosary Raiders of Lloydminster.

Cochrane easily handled the Willow Creek Cobras, 41-17, in the south final of the newly established 3A division and head to Grande Prairie on Friday for the Alberta Bowl on Nov. 23. Game time is 11 a.m.

NDC JV Boys Volleyball go perfect in host tournament

A week after taking the Zone Championships, the Notre Dame Collegiate Timberwolves hosted a zone tournament, with the Junior Boys volleyball team putting up a perfect run.

The JV Boys started the 20-team zone tournament with a clean sweep in the round-robin portion, cementing their semi-final appearance with a bye. The JV Boys continued to fuel off the home crowd at the T-Wolf Den as they won their semi-final appearance against Diamond Valley's Oilfield Drillers. 

The finals saw the T-Wolves and Didsbury High School face off.

Ardens captain overjoyed by Provincial title run

For only the second time in school history, the Swift Current Comp. Ardens are 5A Girls' Volleyball Provincial champions.

Swift Current defeated Balgonie Greenall Saturday to capture the provincial title for the first time since 2016.

Ardens co-captain Madison Yates is one of three graduating players and was thrilled to end her high school volleyball career on a high note.

Oilers come home empty handed

The Okotoks Oilers were in B.C. over the weekend for their road trip and came home with two losses.

On Friday, the Green and Gold were in Vernon to face the Vipers.

It marked the second time both teams have faced off this year with the Oilers taking the first game. Friday night, however,saw the Vipers take the win in a 7-4 hockey game.

Olivier Ciarlo made the start in net with Simon Westling coming in relief during the first period. 

Michael Kowalski opened the scoring in the game with his third goal on the season coming 2:37 into the game.

More provincial/regional volleyball results

While the Swift Current Comp Ardens celebrated a 5A girls provincial volleyball championship, several other local teams also participated in provincial or regional tournaments. 

The Swift Current Comp Colts had a strong showing in the round robin at 5A boys provincials in Balgonie.

They went 3-1 with wins over PA Carlton, Regina LeBoldus and Regina Winston Knoll. Their only loss came against eventual silver medalists Saskatoon Aden Bowman.
