Legion Week kicks off with full schedule in Portage
Portage la Prairie’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 is set to mark Legion Week from September 13 to 20 with a full slate of events. The week begins with a Saturday dinner followed by karaoke. Karaoke has become a weekly staple at the branch.
Bob Oldford, past president of the Portage Legion, says the week will feature a mix of entertainment, community gatherings, and traditional events.
“On Monday is our bingo and electronic darts that are downstairs. And Tuesday is the general meeting for all the current members,” notes Oldford.

The Kindersley Jr. Klippers rattled off four straight wins to end the pre-season, capping the early game slate on Wednesday night with a 5-4 win against the only team to beat them this pre-season, the AJHL's Drumheller Dragons.

From Cash Calendars to Jail and Bail the Kinette Club preps for TeleMiracle
The Estevan Kinette Club is gearing up for a busy fall and winter season with a variety of fundraisers leading into TeleMiracle. Krissy Wallman, the club’s TeleMiracle representative, joined the station to share details of upcoming events and initiatives.
The club’s cash calendar is now on sale for $20 each, marking its seventh year. Starting November 1, participants have the chance to win a variety of cash prizes. Wallman said, “You can contact our page or else one of our Connects” to purchase a calendar.
Grain Rush: Randy Scott takes a chicken break due to rain, hail
Grain Rush, driven by Great Plains Ford, headed all the way to south of Khedive today to the Scott farm, as Randy Scott and his crew were the winners of some delicious KFC, thanks to Nelson Motors!
Scott said he and his crew are plugging away, at a little over half done with taking off the crops of lentils and flax. He said it's been better this year than in the last few years.
Salvation Army family night mixes faith and animals
The Salvation Army in Portage la Prairie held its second family night on Friday, Sept. 12, bringing together families for an evening filled with worship, fun, and plenty of animals. The idea for the theme came from organizer Justina Hamill, whose husband runs Best West Pet Foods in Winnipeg and frequently shares animals with schools and community groups.
Local authors gather for Plains of Imagination Book Fair
Estevan’s literary scene will take center stage on September 20th as 17 local authors gather for the Plains of Imagination Book Fair at the Estevan Public Library. The event highlights the growing number of writers in Southeast Saskatchewan and offers the public a chance to connect directly with authors.
Kyle Brokenshire, a member of the Estevan Writers Group, shared excitement for the event. “It’s really a great time to be doing something like this,” Brokenshire said, noting that several books have been released in the past year, with more in the pipeline.

The Macklin EMS "Jump for Charity" took place near Carnie's neck of the woods in Moose Jaw. That story joined a still rising donation total through two days at the Energy Dodge Dakota Buttar Invitational to create some major goodwill and make for a solid topic during our Thursday chat.
