Fire Prevention Week wraps up with open house at Winnipeg fire halls today
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is inviting residents to visit their local fire halls today as part of an open house event, running from noon to 4 p.m.
Every WFPS station across the city will welcome visitors, offering a chance to meet first responders and learn essential fire safety tips. Attendees will gain valuable information on smoke alarms, home escape plans, and fire prevention strategies.

Prairie Soundscape Choir is introducing a new and exciting experience to Morden—Pub Choir! Representatives Daniel Klauke and Heidi Friesen shared, "It's a very casual event. Anyone is welcome to come. We'll teach a song in four-part harmony, and by the end, we'll all sing together and create some beautiful music." Taking place on October 18th at Finer Spirits, the event kicks off with doors opening at 7:00 PM, and the singing starting at 7:30 PM.

An opening reception was held Friday evening at the Weyburn Art Gallery for 'Zero Degrees of Separation', a new exhibit featuring the works of 30 artists from the City of Weyburn's Permanent Collection in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
In a previous interview, City Curator Regan Lanning shared about the unique exhibit, which has differently coloured tape connecting each piece to show how each artist was connected. The 'web of interconnectivity' demonstrates how 'no artist stands alone'.

First Wings of Change session tomorrow
High school student mentors are reaching out to students in grades 1 to 6 to provide them with "Wings of Change."
All youth interested in receiving assistance with their Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) studies are welcome to join the drop-in sessions being offered in two different age groups at two separate locations.
The first of three sessions for grades 1 to 3 students is being held tomorrow--Sat. Oct. 12--at the Cochrane Public Library. Additional sessions are being held on Nov. 23 and Dec. 21.

In September we had a family meeting, there were fewer members in said meeting because my three oldest children (of five) have all moved out, two to university and one to pursue a career as a firefighter in Victoria.
This has left a few empty bedrooms in our home. Unsure of what to do with the new space, but knowing we had a desire to get more involved without community we, after much discussion, have decided to get involved with the Okotoks Oilers Billet Program.
Northern Lights delight as aurora borealis dazzles Swift Current
Last night, southwest Saskatchewan had its fourth consecutive evening of Northern Lights.
From Swift Current to Cabri, and Maple Creek to Shaunavon, the entire region got to bear witness as the nighttime sky burst with colours, as the ribbons of aurora flitted amongst the stars.

Halloween Party in support of Christmas Cheer!
Put on your best Halloween costume, enjoy an evening of fun and support families in need this Christmas season!
Christmas Cheer is hosting a Halloween Party on October 19 at the Moose Jaw Wildlife Centre.
Tickets are just $15. Cocktails start at 5pm, dinner is at 6pm with a dance to follow.
Proceeds from the event go towards Christmas Cheer and will be used to adopt families at Christmas Time.
