From Drums to Bagpipes: CHVN Cruiser tours global traditions and rhythms
The CHVN Cruiser cruised to the Africa Pavilion at Tec Voc High School, 1555 Wall Street, on Friday evening for Folklorama.
It then zoomed off to the Ethiopian Pavilion at the Ethiopian Cultural Center, 215 Selkirk Avenue. It ended its night at the British Isles Pavilion at the Heather Curling Club, 120 Rue Youville.
The Africa Pavilion showcased energetic performances from across the continent, featuring West African-inspired dance and musical performances inspired by Eastern and Southern Africa.

Kelly Bado returns to Made in Manitoba with 'Belles Âmes'
It's time for our weekly musical spotlight, when we feature the best music made right here in our province. We call this Made in Manitoba. Tonight, it's a return visit from Kelly Bado who is originally from Côte d'Ivoire, but is now based in Winnipeg. Her new album is called Belles Âmes, and brings together her multilingual roots blending French and Attié, her first language.
Summer Fun Fest at Boundary Beach postponed
Organizers have announced that Summer Fun Fest, originally scheduled for tomorrow at Boundary Dam, will be postponed due to an unfavourable weather forecast.
The decision was made Thursday afternoon after reviewing conditions and consulting with community groups involved in the event. Efforts are now underway to determine if the festival can be rescheduled for later in August.
“We had to make a call this afternoon just to say we will postpone it,” organizers said, noting that updates will be shared on social media and emailed to seasonal campers.
Fetch a Friend - The Royal Duchess
Two-year-old Duchess is looking for a new home after a change in her foster situation.
The spayed female requires a household with no other pets, as she does not get along well with other animals. Shelter staff describe her as playful, with chasing games among her favourites, and affectionate on her own terms.
Duchess has a medium-length coat and lost the tips of her ears to frostbite while living as a stray. She is described as preferring to be the centre of attention and would thrive in a home where she can have full reign.
Estevan kids went around the world without leaving the city
Children in Estevan have been traveling the globe this summer, without ever leaving the city. Through the Estevan Public Library’s TD Summer Reading Program, kids aged 5 to 12 have been diving into stories, crafts, and cultural experiences designed to spark imagination and build literacy.
“This is just a kids’ outdoor story time,” said Katie Ostrander, Summer Reading Program Coordinator. “We go to parks around Estevan and do story time with a craft afterwards that relates to the story.”

A local cheese connoisseur has received recognition for the best fresh cheese in North America.

Fabiola Dela Pria, owner of Unique Brazilian Dairy, recently travelled to Sacramento, California, to attend the American Cheese Society Conference. There, her Minas Frescal cheese took home the top award for fresh cheese.
13U AAA Canucks holding BBQ fundraiser Saturday
The U13 AAA Canucks are gearing up for an exciting journey to Chilliwack, British Columbia, where they’ll compete in the prestigious Western Canadian Baseball Championship from August 15 to 17.
Coach Rod Bauck shared the significance of the moment: “The boys have worked incredibly hard all season. We’ve played 42 games and practiced three to four times a week. This is a huge accomplishment for our team.”
Second baseman Tanner Usher expressed the team’s enthusiasm: “We’re excited to head out to BC and compete.”
