AAFC Researchers at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre want to turn Canadian agriculture’s value chains into value circles.  

Dr. Emma Stephens and a team of data analysts are taking the most comprehensive look yet at Canada’s entire agriculture and agri-food industry, from the field, to processing and exports, to the end use by consumers.

"What that means is looking for additional value-added opportunities within our agri-food value chain through co-products and current waste byproducts to find additional ag-based resources," she explained.

Canada updates U.S., China travel advisories after recent frictions

Canadians are now facing updated travel advisories to the world's two largest economies, after Ottawa warned travellers who stay in the United States for more than 30 days to make sure they register as required.

The advisory for the United States follows another update for travel to China, where Canadians with dual citizenship have been warned to use Canadian credentials when presenting to Chinese authorities.

Carney calls April 28 election, parties kick off campaigns

The leaders vying to become Canada's next prime minister are officially kicking off their campaigns today, vowing to strengthen Canada's economy and stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump.

Liberal Leader Mark Carney has confirmed a federal election will be called on April 28, speaking outside Rideau Hall after requesting Parliament be dissolved.

Carney will be running in the Ottawa riding of Nepean.

The Nepean riding has been held by Liberal MP Chandra Arya for the last decade, but the party recently revoked his nomination.

Familiarity breeds danger: RCMP advise safe driving on gravel roads

Despite their lack of pavement, grid roads are still legal roads that are subject to driving laws. RCMP Superintendent Grant St. Germaine is the officer in charge of F Division Traffic Services and the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan. He says they often see disregard for seatbelt laws. 

Measles know no borders—Sask. health officer outlines key vaccination guidelines

As measles outbreaks continue to make headlines worldwide, Dr. Stanley Enebeli, Medical Health Officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, is urging residents of the southeast and across the province to stay vigilant.

While cases of measles have increased in parts of Canada, including Ontario and Quebec, and internationally, Enebeli confirmed that Saskatchewan has not yet reported any measles cases in 2025. However, he emphasized the importance of continued monitoring, as the risk remains due to outbreaks elsewhere.

Premiers meet with PM Mark Carney, call for end to internal trade barriers

Several of Canada's premiers called for the elimination of interprovincial trade barriers on Friday ahead of a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Carney was meeting with premiers at the Canadian War Museum Friday afternoon to discuss the federal government's response to Chinese and U.S. tariffs.

Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said "we need a united Canada."

U13 A Humboldt Broncos host game one of provincial finals on Saturday

The U13 ‘A’ Humboldt Broncos have one more series to go in their quest to become ‘B’ Provincial champions. 

On Saturday, the U13 ‘A’ Humboldt Broncos will host the Moosomin Rangers in game one of the provincial finals. There will be a guaranteed 50/50 jackpot of $2000 thanks to Discovery Ford. Admission is free for all spectators.  

Senior Hockey playoff update

The Long Lake Hockey League championship finals will be idle this week. The Foam Lake Flyers are chasing provincial glory, as they battle the Wilkie Outlaws in the Senior ‘C’ Provincial finals. Foam Lake leads the best of three series 1-0, after a 7-6 win on home ice last weekend. Game two is on Saturday in Wilkie at 7:30. If the Outlaws win tomorrow night, then game three is Sunday at 3:30.
