Citizens' Police Academy discusses Criminal Investigation Section
The Citizens' Police Academy wrapped up its third week with a presentation from Constable Josh McNaughton of the Criminal Investigation Section (CIS).
McNaughton explained the Criminal Investigation Section and the cases that they deal with, such as child abuse, drug trafficking, major sexual assaults, homicides, and murders.
Child abuse cases are the most common ones investigated. Many of these cases are a result of excessive discipline, but some go as far as physical or sexual abuse.
Moose Jaw Health Foundation raising money for hospital at 2023 radiothon
At this year's Family First Radiothon, the Moose Jaw Health Foundation has a goal of raising $150,000, with all proceeds going to the F.H. Wigmore Hospital.

Saskatchewan's Big Game Draw beginning May 1
Saskatchewan residents who love to hunt are encouraged to apply for the Big Game Draw beginning May 1st.
Applicants will get the opportunity to hunt elk, moose, pronghorn, or mule deer, while also being submitted into a draw for the catches they make.
People can apply through the Saskatchewan Hunting, Angling, and Trapping Licence (HAL) system by 4:00 p.m. on May 25. Late applications will not be accepted.
Saskatchewan Polytechnic Carpentry students build lockers for MJ Police Service
The Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw Campus Carpentry students designed and assembled lockers for the Tactical Response Team at Moose Jaw Police Service.
The Tactical Response Team is a new unit in the Moose Jaw Police Service. They had been assigned rooms and gear, but they still needed lockers to store their supplies in.
Constable Reggie Pawliw from Moose Jaw City Police was the one who thought of the idea initially.
Local financial expert discusses possibility of a recession
There has been speculation as to whether we are going through a recession, or headed into one right away.
Financial expert, Aaron Ruston from Purposed Financial, has valuable information on recessions and how people can protect their money.
"A recession is a place where for two straight quarters, there is a decrease in economic growth within a country, sector, or even a global base overall," Ruston remarked.
Layne Pethick to host children's behaviour seminar at Heritage Inn
Human behavioural expert, Layne Pethick, is leading a "Teaching Behaviours at Home" seminar in cooperation with South Central Early Childhood Intervention Program.
The presentation is geared towards parents seeking guidance on how to manage their child's behaviours at home.
"It's mostly to help [parents] understand how to teach behaviour at home," Pethick commented. "But they will also learn a lot about themselves too while they are going through it."
Mini rugby offers great alternative to mainstream sports
Moose Jaw Mini Rugby is kicking off its 2023 season in a couple of weeks at the Clark Gillies green space (Third Ave & Oxford St).
The program gives kids ages 6-12 a chance to learn how to play rugby in a no-contact, stress-free, participation-based environment.
Trevor Dawe, Assistant Coach of Moose Jaw Mini Rugby, thinks rugby is a great alternative for kids who may not be into other greater-known sports, such as volleyball or basketball.

Sask Polytech business students hosting showcase event
The Saskatchewan Polytechnic School of Business students are hosting a showcase at the Western Development Museum.
Forty-five business students will be given the chance to present the projects they have been working on during their program.
Kristen Craig, Associate Dean for the School of Business, believes these showcases are important for students and industry representatives alike.
Legion hosting event to celebrate the 'Month of the Military Child'
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 59 is celebrating the Month of the Military Child.
Military families are invited to participate in a variety of fun activities, such as face painting, finger painting, activity booths, a candy guess jar, and a selfie picture station. Hotdogs and soft drinks will also be supplied to guests at the event.
Roy LaBuick, past President of the legion branch, thinks this is a wonderful way to acknowledge the strength of military families in Moose Jaw.
