Saskatchewan Polytechnic partners with SaskPower to educate students on powerline safety

Saskatchewan Polytechnic recently leased 29 acres of land in the Agri-Food Industrial Park for their Agriculture and Food Production diploma program.

This collaboration with SaskPower was made to teach post-secondary students safety procedures when working around power lines.

SaskPower hopes that by installing overhead power poles and inactive lines, the powerline incident count will decrease.

Scott McGregor, spokesperson for SaskPower, says that their goal is to educate people on the steps they can take to avoid powerline accidents.

Saskatchewan country singer finishes in Top 55 on American Idol

Brayden King, a country singer from Weyburn, finished in the top-55 on the latest season of American Idol.

King performed in front of notable superstars Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie.

"I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be," King recalled. "Two days before my audition, we were doing some filming for the show. I ran into Luke and Lionel and got to have a quick little chat with them."

King said that it was nice to make that connection beforehand because it made the audition room feel like a safer space to be in.

"We wanted to educate our youth on the importance of our environment and the wildlife within it," Austin remarked. "We also wanted to get them outside and let them experience the beauty of winter."

With spring just around the corner, the CAA Worst Roads campaign is making its return.

Road users are invited to nominate and vote for their worst, unsafe roads. Road users include motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and transit riders.

Once results are recorded, the campaign releases a list of the top ten worst roads in Saskatchewan. Last year, two of Moose Jaw's roads made the list, with the 4th Avenue Viaduct ranked at 7th and the 9th Avenue Southwest ranked at 10th.

Museum Nonsense highlights April events at Western Development Museum

The Western Development Museum has a lot of fun events planned for the month of April!

Different signs will be posted at each exhibit. Each sign will have artifacts with statements about each one; it is the guest's job to decide which of these claims is true.  You can enter your answers for a chance to win a prize basket!

Prairie South School Division to host "Try a Career" Expo

Prairie South Division is hosting a "Try A Career" Expo next month.

The event allows the division's grade ten students to experience what each career field has to offer.

Troy Wist, the program facilitator of Regina District Industry Education Council, says it will have a different approach than most career fairs.

"It is designed to be a hands-on experience," Wist remarked. "We don't have booths where they hand out pamphlets, we have exhibitors who set up hands-on activities."
