Assiniboia town council acclaimed

South of Moose Jaw in Assiniboia, there will be no election. 

Returning officer Clint Mauthe gave Notice of Abandonment of Poll as the mayor and town councillors have been acclaimed. 

Sharon Schauenberg has been acclaimed as mayor. She is turning for her second term as the mayor of Assiniboia. Schauenberg was first elected in 2020 and became the first woman to be elected as the mayor in the town’s history. 

James Murdock elected as 42nd mayor of Moose Jaw in a landslide victory

Moose Javians hit the polls today and made their voices heard, with five of five polling districts reporting in James Murdock has won in a landslide with 5,437 votes. Crystal Froese came in second place with 1,439 and was trailed by former mayor, Clive Tolley with 601.

The six open seats on city council have also been filled, Jamey Logan was the frontrunner, locking in his place at the table with 4,382 votes. Patrick Boyle secured 3,662 votes for second place, followed by Chris Warren with 2,666 votes.

Kyle still searching for a mayor

While other municipalities are going to the polls today, Kyle is still waiting for someone to step up as a potential mayor.

They do have an acclaimed town council that will hold a meeting tomorrow.

"At that meeting the acclaimed councillors will take their oath and then they will appoint a deputy mayor who will run the meeting," said Kyle CAO Amber Dashney. "They will decide on a byelection date and then from there the nomination day is set and we will post for the position of mayor and as well another councillor position as well."

Election Day in Swift Current

It's another chance to have your voices heard as municipalities throughout southwest Saskatchewan hold their elections today.

Swift Current is electing six councillors and three public school board trustees.

Voting runs from 9am to 8pm today at multiple polling stations around the city.

"I just really encourage all our local residents to please take part of our democratic process," said Jackie Schlamp, returning officer and clerk for the City of Swift Current. "To help shape the city and elect your Council representatives."

Over 1,100 people voted in municipal election advance polls

The numbers are in from the advance polls held last week for the City of Moose Jaw municipal election. 

A total of 1,105 eligible voters took advantage of the advance polls over the last couple of weeks.

Election day is on Wednesday. Polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is polling stations at the Moose Jaw Golden Nugget Centre, the Cosmo Senior Citizen Centre, Minto United Church and Church of Our Lady. 

No election in Ponteix this year

There will be no election this year in Ponteix. 

The Town will have no polling stations, mail-in ballots, or remote voting options. This isn't because of any grand conspiracy or government shutdown. 

All but one of the previous town councillors and the Mayor, Kurt Dixon, have been acclaimed for the next term. 

Councillors Els Dudrange, Robert Lisante, Felix Therrian, and Patricia Reid are all back for the next four years. 

Vice-chair campaigns for third term on the Chinook School Board

The current vice-chair for the Chinook School Board is looking to be re-elected for her third term on the school board.

Dianne Hahn has been a trustee on the Chinook School Board since 2016 and is keen to continue putting the needs and education of students first.

Hahn highlighted her passion for seeing students and youth thrive and plans to utilize collaboration to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn.
