Summer's not-so-refreshing surprise

As summer temperatures rise, the threat of blue-green algae blooms looms over the lakes of southern Saskatchewan.  

Sean Osmar, a spokesperson for the Water Security Agency, explained that the potential for the blooms appears alongside the arrival of summer temperatures. 

“The temperatures start rising in the summer,” he stated. “So, around now we would start seeing early indications if not some blooms already forming.”

The Jeans for Teens initiative, an annual fundraising event, is set to launch on Monday, aiming to rally local businesses in support of a charitable cause.  

Jeans for Teens has been an established tradition for several years, with past variations benefiting various charities and referred to as ‘Dress in Denim.’ 

However, recent years have seen a focus on supporting The Centre in Swift Current, explained Megan Muri, the events coordinator with the Swift Current Ag and Ex.

Swift Current Christian Taekwondo breaks boards and barriers for freedom

Over the weekend, Swift Current Christian Taekwondo hosted its annual "Breaking Boards for Freedom" event at the Church of the Open Bible.  

The event, aimed at raising funds to combat human trafficking and slavery, was a tremendous success, with participants breaking a staggering number of boards and raising just under $20,000 for the International Justice Mission (IJM).

Sunday collision results in fatality near Gravelbourg

Police received a report of a single-vehicle collision Sunday morning at approximately 4:10 a.m.

Gravelbourg RCMP officers and EMS responded to the scene on Highway 58, south of Gravelbourg.

One of the occupants of the vehicle, a 20-year-old male from the Gravelbourg area was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The other two occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital for further assessment.

The road was temporarily blocked while an on-scene investigation was completed. It has since reopened.

Seniors can’t help falling in love at Elvis tribute concert

With a whopping 380 attendees filling the gym of Ecole Centennial School, the Rory Allen concert proved to be an unforgettable experience.
