Lil Hoots owner steps away as store under new ownership

After opening and running Hoots Family Consignment for the last five years, Denise Geremia has stepped down as owner after selling the store.

Geremia had her final day on Feb. 28 before handing the keys to the new owners, Ashleigh and Debbie Enslen.

Trump says threatened economywide tariffs will hit Canada, Mexico on Tuesday

U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, with a lower 10 per cent levy on Canadian energy, will start Tuesday, tipping the continent into a trade war.

"No room left for Mexico or for Canada (to make a deal)," Trump said at the White House.

Trump's executive order to implement economywide tariffs was delayed until Tuesday after Canada and Mexico agreed to introduce new security measures at the border.

When will the Strathmore Courthouse close for renovations?

The Strathmore Courthouse will be closed for renovations starting next month.

According to a news release from Alberta Courts, on Tuesday, April 1, all court matters will need to be done at the Alberta Court of Justice Calgary Courts Centre Courtroom.

If residents have a case management office appearance, they will have to call the Drumheller Courthouse of the Calgary Regional Court office on the date of appearance before 1 p.m.

Kings manager reflects on "bittersweet" season

Cody Holdaway, general manager of the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings, spoke about the team's record-breaking season.

The Kings were knocked out of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) playoff semifinals in game four against the Medicine Hat Cubs on Friday, Feb. 28.

"It was a good game, the boys played well, but at the end of the day we couldn't pull it off," said Holdaway. "The game was tied with about three minutes left, and then Medicine Hat snuck one. Then we pulled our goalie and they snuck another in from there."

Drumheller launches new sports committee to shape future of local athletics

It's a new initiative that the Town of Drumheller is hoping will garner a lot of steam.

"This new initiative will play a key role in shaping the future of sports development in the community. Based on the recommendations outlined in the 2023 Parks & Recreation Master Plan, the committee’s primary goal is to provide advisory support to the Town of Drumheller on all matters related to sports development," mentioned the town in a news release about the new Drumheller Valley Sports Committee.

Ryan Straschnitzki is overcoming adversity every day of his life.

The former Humboldt Bronco was paralyzed from the chest down after a horrific bus crash that took the lives of 16 players in 2018.

During an upcoming speaking session at a mental health fair in Chestermere, he'll be sharing his story.

"I let them know a little bit about who I was before the accident happened, and who I am now and some of the moments of adversity that I faced and how that developed me into the person I am today."
