Blowing snow on highways around Airdrie reducing visibility

Strong wind gusts have produced blowing snow on the QEII both Northbound and Southbound around Airdrie.

Motorists are asked to exercise caution as visibility may be reduced in many areas. 

Snowfall will continue until late this afternoon and there may be up to two centimetres of accumulation. The wind will be lightening up near noon, although evening temperatures are expected to be frigid in the windchill. 

Update: Reports of Jack-knifed Semi north of Airdrie

A jack-knife semi-trailer reported North of Crossfield, near Township Road 292 has been cleared.

Motorists are asked to exercise caution as the area may have residual traffic. 

There were no other details on the collision. 

Motorists are reminded that snow on the highways and roads in and around Airdrie may be blowing, and drivers should drive to winter conditions.

UPDATE: Collision near Airdrie library snarls traffic

There were reports that a collision occurred just after noon near the Airdrie Public Library's main entrance off Main Street but has since been cleared.

According to reports, the entrance was blocked off by a vehicle that may have collided with heavy machinery equipment, possibly a backhoe. There was no word on injuries. 

Update: Major collision cleared on Deerfoot Trail

A major collision that closed the Southbound Deerfoot Trail ramp at Memorial Trail Drive Northeast has been cleared.

There were reports that one individual was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition after a collision with a C-train. Police have since confirmed that the individual has died.

A multi-vehicle incident previously shut down the Southbound Deerfot Trail ramp at Memorial Drive Northeast has since been cleared. 

Black ice reported on highways around Airdrie

While there are no weather advisories in place for Airdrie and the surrounding areas, motorists are asked to drive to winter conditions, due to slippery highways.

Heading Southbound towards Calgary city limits, the QEIi is reported to have patches of black ice as well as partly covered snowy sections. 

North of Airdrie, similar conditions have been reported, and Highway 2A is covered in snow with patches of black ice and icy wheel paths.

Update: Jack-knifed semi trailer north of Airdrie

A jackknifed semi-trailer on the QEII, heading northbound near Highway 581, has been cleared. 

Motorists were asked to exercise caution as there were lane closures and delays in the area.

Although there are no weather advisories in effect, motorists are reporting that there are vehicles in ditches on the QEII highway between Airdrie and Red Deer.

Highway conditions North of Airdrie towards the junction with Highway 2A have been reported to be partly covered in snow, with patches of black ice.

Update: Collision and Freezing Drizzle Slow Traffic in Airdrie

An early morning multi-vehicle collision that was causing delays for commuters in Airdrie and surrounding areas, has been cleared.

 Four vehicles were involved including one semi, no injuries were reported at the time. The collision occurred in the northbound lanes of the QE2, just past Yankee Valley Boulevard. Crews were on the scene for some time, which affected the left-hand lane and caused significant traffic congestion.
