River Ridge Golf Club swings into future with plans for new $400K clubhouse

River Ridge Golf Club is teeing off on a new chapter.

The scenic course located between Eatonia and Leader has announced plans to construct a brand-new clubhouse, with demolition of the existing mobile-home facility set for Sept. 1. Groundbreaking on the new build will follow immediately after.

The project comes with a $400,000 price tag, with financing already secured through Sandhills Credit Union in Leader. However, club officials say support from the wider community will be essential to help bring the vision to life.

Surge teams wrap up season in Battle at the Bridge

Multiple Swift Current Surge club basketball teams wrapped up their seasons at the Battle at the Bridge over the weekend.

The U13 girls won gold in the B Division, beating the Express 46-27.

The U11 girls beat the Express 40-20 to win bronze. 

The two U15 girls' teams faced off for bronze in the B Division, and Green beat Black 43-17.

Ippon Karate Dojo strikes Pan-Am bronze, celebrates 20 years of excellence

Ippon Karate Dojo has enjoyed a landmark few weeks on and off the mat, with a historic international medal and a milestone anniversary celebration at home.

Four athletes from the Cochrane-based dojo suited up for Canada at the Senior Pan American Karate Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, from May 22 to 25. Brooklyn Carter and Yuki McNeil competed in the individual kata divisions, while McNeil, Carter Dawood and Vincent Thottungal teamed up to secure a bronze medal in the men’s team kata event.

First-ever Legacy Tournament set to memorialize local golfer

Southwest golfers, community members, and more can still register to participate in the very first annual Serge Lepine Legacy Tournament in honour of local man, Serge Lepine.

After losing a seven-year battle to cancer, the family of the 54-year-old golf enthusiast have organized what they hope to be the first in many memorial golf tournaments, coming up next Friday at the Chinook Golf Course in Swift Current.

Brenda Lepine shared that her husband was initially diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer in December 2017, which progressed until he passed away on May 28, 2024.
