Airdrie to receive more modular classrooms

Today, Rocky View Schools (RVS) announced that the Government of Alberta approved five more modular classrooms through its in-year modular funding program.

“RVS appreciates the government’s continued commitment to addressing our overcrowded schools,” said Board Chair Fiona Gilbert. “These five additional modular classrooms to go along with the five new, plus one washroom relocation, approved earlier this spring, will help us better serve our students while we wait for new schools to be built.”

Are Albertans the most adventurous travellers in Canada? Survey says yes

Albertans are the least likely in Canada to vacation within their own province this year, according to a national survey released by Go RVing Canada.

Just 55 per cent of Albertans plan to travel within Alberta, the lowest staycation rate in the country. Forty-three per cent are looking beyond provincial borders, with British Columbia (34 per cent) and Ontario (23 per cent) topping their Canadian travel wish lists.

Guthrie challenges health scandal probe, fuels momentum for PC revival

Airdrie-Cochrane MLA Peter Guthrie continues to express no confidence in the third-party investigation led by retired Manitoba judge Raymond Wyant, whom Premier Danielle Smith’s administration appointed to look into allegations of corruption in health care contracts.

Guthrie says the information being shared with Wyant is controlled by the Smith administration and believes the ongoing investigations by the RCMP and Alberta’s Auditor General will be more revealing.

Three Albertans win Championships at Calgary Stampede

It was a historical day on Sunday at the Calgary Stampede.

Breakaway Roping was introduced this year, giving women their second event to earn $50,000 in.

It didn't disappoint either, as Langdon Alberta's Shelby Boisjoli-Meged won it with a blistering time of 2.2 seconds.

Boisjoli-Meged was the only Canadian top nine finalist in the event.

There were a few more major Alberta moments from Championship Sunday.

In Saddle Bronc, Zeke Thurston from Big Valley, Alberta, won it again, for the fourth time, but his first since 2017.

Airdrie’s Hayley Isabel shines at Calgary Stampede

Thirteen-year-old Airdrie country music star Hayley Isabel has concluded her busy week at the Calgary Stampede.

From performing the national anthem to singing her songs on plenty of stages, she shared that this will be a stampede she won't forget.

"I was also playing on the west stage in the BMO Centre. It's a great stage that I look forward to playing every year."

Wednesday night was her final night at the Stampede, and she shared that she was able to enjoy the festivities and won a large stuffed animal from one of the games.

Inspire nears opening with new lighting

The City of Airdrie has provided another update when it comes to Inspire, Airdrie's new multi-use facility and library.

They took to social media to show the progress on the lighting around the building.

The post, which can be seen below, showcases some more signage, lighting around stars near the back of the building and lighting for the driveway to the parking garage.

According to the city, the building will be opening in October.

'Pornography is a problem': Smith defends new rules for Alberta school libraries

Alberta's premier says "pornography is a problem for young adults" in remarks defending her government's move to remove sexually explicit content from school library shelves this fall.

Danielle Smith was responding to criticism received via text on her provincewide phone-in radio program on Saturday that a lack of education funding and overcrowded classrooms were more important issues than library content.

New principal joins Ecole Olds Elementary

Ecole Olds Elementary School (EOES) is welcoming a new principal.

Greg Ferris has been serving as a Student Services Coordinator at the division level. In the fall, he will be the Principal.
