Carnie's Comments - Happy at Work?

Carnie's Comments

You know, I've just returned to the radio station after a two-week summer vacation. It's not easy coming back but I can imagine how tough it would be if I didn't enjoy what I do for a living.

And, upon my return, I received a report from ADP Canada, an organization that provides payroll, human resources and workforce management.

Their most recent "Happiness at Work Index" finds Saskatchewan and Manitoba are tied for "happiest regions in the country to work in". Both provinces posted a national-high score of 7.1 out of 10.

How are residents spending the last weeks of summer?

We asked our readers how they plan to spend the last weeks of summer.

We posted a poll on our homepage asking people to let us know how their end-of-summer plans.

A total of 43 voters responded, with 22 votes (51.16 per cent) saying they'll be soaking up the sun and relaxing.

In second place with 10 votes (23.26 per cent) were residents hoping to crack a cold one and call it patio season. Behind that, with seven votes (16.28 per cent) were residents taking a last-minute visit to the lake.

Kindersley family seeking support as young son begins brain tumour treatment

A Kindersley family is asking for prayers and financial support as their six-year-old son begins months of treatment following a brain tumour diagnosis earlier this summer.

On Aug. 11, doctors at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon discovered a three-centimetre tumour in Ghio Villanea. He underwent surgery two days later, but physicians found fragments that had already started to grow.

Ghio is now preparing for chemotherapy and radiation therapy on September 10th, a process expected to take several months.

Portage Learning and Literacy Centre hosts open house Wednesday

The Portage Learning and Literacy Centre is opening its doors today (September 3) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., inviting the public to learn about its wide range of programs and services.

Lead teacher Laurie Collier says the event is especially geared toward students, though anyone is welcome to stop by. The centre provides education programs, employment supports, and resources for newcomers. The open house is seen as a key way to connect with potential learners and recruit new students.

Sukanen Ship Threshing Bee this weekend

The Sukanen Ship Museum is hosting its 56th annual Threshing Bee just south of Moose Jaw on September 6 and 7. Evan Davis says visitors can expect “demonstrations of plowing, threshing, rope making, and blacksmithing. There’s a vintage tractor pull both days, parades… as well as a ton of other things going on on the grounds.”

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6–12, or $16 for a two-day pass. “There are a limited number of unserviced RV camping spots on the ground,” Davis adds.
