Update: Vehicle fire shuts down portion of QEII north of Airdrie
Didsbury RCMP and other emergency services have cleared a vehicle fire on the QE II near Township Road 294. Police said that normal traffic flow has resumed.
Earlier this afternoon, Mounties and other emergency services responded to a vehicle fire north of Airdrie.
There was a detour in place, and police had previously advised motorists to take the Highway 2A exit at Crossfield to bypass the road closure.
There is no word on injuries or what caused the fire.

Didsbury band shines at National Music Fest
It was a year to remember for the Didsbury High School band as they attended a national event called Music Fest in Toronto earlier this month.
Last year, the band was invited to attend the same event, but because of timing and the cost of travel, they could not make Music Fest. Luckily, they could defer their invite to this year and the band made the most of it.
Local film office receives $50,000 grant
The Mountain View Regional Film Office (MVRFO) has been awarded a $50,000 grant by the province of Alberta, under the Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) program.
The MVRFO, created by Didsbury, Sundre along with Mountain View County, stands as Alberta’s inaugural rural film office. Its mission is to foster economic diversification by facilitating film development and media technology investment within and adjacent to their respective regions.
Stolen car from Didsbury leads to major drug bust in Northern Alberta
A car that was reported stolen out of Didsbury two years ago was subsequently stopped during a traffic stop in Northern Alberta by Mounties, resulting in a seizure of $10,000 worth of narcotics.
According to Mounties, last Thursday, Whitecourt RCMP was conducting roving patrols when a driver on Highway 43 was observed not wearing a seatbelt.
"A roadside stop was conducted and the Alberta RCMP Traffic Unit officer noted that the VIN did not match the registration and insurance documents."
