Mountain View County elects new councillor, re-elects leadership
The official results of Mountain View County's (MVC) by-election have been revealed. Tiffany Nixon has been elected as Division 4 Councillor.
Last week, MVC announced that a total of 349 votes were cast in the By-Election, with the following results:
- Sean LaBrie: 158
- Tiffany Nixon: 191
Division 4 voters had two chances to cast their ballots; advance voting took place at Melvin Hall on October 9 and Bergen Hall on October 10. On October 16, the By-Election Voting Day was held.
Didsbury Fire Department looking to add new members
The Didsbury Fire Department has opened up applications as they are looking to add to their number of firefighters.
Kyle Leeson, Deputy Fire Chief for the Didsbury Fire Department, talked about opening up the recruitment process.
"We are looking for dedicated members of the community, you must live within five miles of the fire station so you are able to respond to a call quickly. We also provide all the necessary training for them to become a volunteer firefighter."
Neighbouring school division offers new dual credit course
Chinook's Edge students can now enroll in a new dual credit course. Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is offering kinesiology to dual-credit students for the first time.
"Chinook’s Edge has 12 students enrolled, along with other students from two other K-12 school divisions. The Kinesiology course is offered mostly online and in asynchronous classes, supported by staff at the school level," stated Chinook's Edge.
Long-awaited movie trailer released for locally shot film
The Order, a made-in-Alberta film, has released its official trailer. The film was shot north of Airdrie in Didsbury, as well as in Calgary, Bragg Creek/Kananaskis, and the Drumheller/Dorothy areas.

Local town councillor submits letter of resignation
A local town councillor's resignation was effective immediately. According to a news release, at the Town of Didsbury Regular Council meeting held on Monday, September 23, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Ethan Gorner announced that he received a letter of resignation from Councillor Joyce McCoy.
Councillor McCoy served on the Council from 2013 to 2017 and was elected again in 2021. According to the Municipal Government Act, holding a by-election is discretionary if council resignations occur within 18 months of a General Election.
Man arrested north of Airdrie in hotel drug bust
Olds RCMP seized 560 grams of suspected fentanyl and arrested a 25-year-old resident of Olds during a drug investigation at a local hotel on August 31.
Mounties stated that they attended a room at a local hotel while continuing an ongoing drug investigation, where officers engaged with the room occupant.
Neighbouring school division welcomes 48 new teachers
Chinook’s Edge School Division is excited to welcome 48 new teachers for the 2024-25 school year.
According to a press release, The group includes teachers who are new to the profession, teachers who are new to Chinook’s Edge, and teachers who joined Chinook’s Edge part-way through the previous school year. This compares to 38 new teachers who started last fall and 37 new teachers at the start of the 2022-23 school year.

The official trailer for Wynonna Earp: Vengeance showcased that the movie will be released sometime on the TUBI streaming service in the fall.
